Coming Up Week 3

Edmund Rice Feast Day

Tuesday is a special day for the College as we join 190,000 students across 21 countries in celebrating Blessed Edmund Rice’s Feast Day. Ambrose Treacy College, like all Edmund Rice schools, strives to be an inclusive community. We are committed to being present for our students, demonstrating compassion and forgiveness in our approach. We also prioritize the needs of those in the wider community who face disadvantage. The ATC service program empowers students to act on this commitment, recognizing the dignity of every individual.

This year is especially important as we also celebrate 150 years of Christian Brothers (EREA) schooling in Australia.

To mark the occasion, we are celebrating Mass and bringing the community together for our house cross country carnival. This is a participation event for all students. Students are reminded to wear their PE uniform to school.

Term Two Sport

After last week's trial matches were interrupted by rain, we are excited to kick off our first round of Football and Rugby competitions. Matches will be held across various venues, and I encourage parents and caregivers to use the sports tab on the college app to access information about squads, game times, and locations.

Yesterday afternoon, I attended rugby training under glorious sunny skies. The energy and excitement were palpable, promising a fantastic weekend ahead. Good luck to the boys, and a heartfelt thank you to the coaches, managers, supportive parents, and friends. Here's to an enjoyable season!

ATC People and Places | Alison Conlan's reflection

'My journey began at Nudgee Junior, where I taught across all year levels in a small, close-knit team.Over the years, I’ve taken on many roles—classroom teacher, Year Level Coordinator, Extension Maths teacher, and coach of various sports. Each experience has shaped me, but stepping into my current role as a Targeted Maths teacher has been the most rewarding. This is where my passion lies. I love seeing the boys grow in confidence, develop their skills, and move through their ATC journey. One of the greatest joys has been watching the boys I taught in Year 4 mature into young men and graduate. As the school has evolved, so have I, and I’m grateful to be part of this community. The strong foundation of NJC remains, reminding me that a school is more than bricks and mortar—it’s the people.'#ATCTurns10

Year 4 Big Bang Science

With great enthusiasm, Year 4 got busy investigating forces in action when Brett from Big Bang Science visited last week. Cars flew across the ground and rockets flew through the air! Magnets were piled end on end in order to test the power of their force. Importantly, fun was had by all!

Year 10 Design

This term our Year 10 Design students have been given the challenge of designing chairs for the local Montessori, made completely out of cardboard. Not only do they have strength and stability to contend with, today they met their biggest (smallest) critics in the form of their clients. Our designers engaged with the children and staff at Montessori to gain a better understanding of the space and people they are designing for. Thank you to the Montessori staff for allowing us access to the space and providing such an invaluable learning opportunity.

FORMATION

Congratulations to our Term 2 Signum Fidei Recipients

Coming together as a community, this week we celebrated the Term 2 Signum Fidei award recipients at the Signum Fidei breakfast held at our campus riverfront. The weather was in our favour, with a gentle breeze and sunshine to welcome our families and staff on campus. Everyone proudly gathered to recognise and congratulate the amazing efforts of these humble students, who continue to demonstrate a commitment to the three College Touchstones of Service, Learning and Leadership, walking in the footsteps of Patrick Ambrose Treacy.

Cyberbullying, Mental Health and Relationship

Mobile devices, social media and the virtual world carries many hidden rabbit holes that can lead our students into unknown territory. Fortunately, organisations such as Brainstorm Productions produce presentations like ‘Wired’, a real life journey of various teenage characters who navigate themes such as Cyberbullying, Mental Health and Relationships. Hopefully, our Middle School students will take some actionable skills away from the presentation to enact in their own lives.

FAITH AND MISSION

Edmund Rice Mass

Edmund Rice was a successful businessman from southeast Ireland. Witnessing the widespread poverty around him, he felt a deep calling to provide education for children who lacked access to schooling. His vision was for every child to have the opportunity for a full and dignified life. Edmund's commitment to helping others inspired many, including Patrick Ambrose Treacy, to follow his example of selfless service. Today, his legacy remains at the heart of the Christian Brothers and the work of all staff in Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) ministries.

On Tuesday 6 May, the College will honour the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice with two Masses held in the St Francis Xavier Centre. These celebrations will offer us, as a Catholic community, a moment to reflect on the life and lasting impact of our founder. Through prayer, scripture and song, we will bring the spirit of Jesus alive in our school. All students and staff will take part in this special occasion.

Please note that as the College has cross county on the same day, students are permitted to wear the Sports Uniform to the Mass.

Year 6 Mass

Our Year 6 cohort gathered for a special mass yesterday at the College Chapel to celebrate St. Catherine of Siena, focusing on the theme "Pilgrims of Hope."

During the beautiful service on Tuesday (29/4), Father Gillen spoke about how St. Catherine's remarkable life exemplifies courage and unwavering faith. He encouraged our boys to follow her example as they navigate their own spiritual journeys.

The boys participated enthusiastically in the liturgy, with several reading prayers of the faithful and others presenting symbols representing their personal commitments to being bearers of hope in our community.

St. Catherine of Siena, known for her determination and dedication to serving others, provides our students with a powerful role model as they continue to develop their own faith and character.
