ANZAC Day - Our Student Engagement Is Affirming and Inspiring

Brother Paul Conn

Brother Paul Conn, Deputy Leader of the Christian Brothers Oceania Province and former Principal of Nudgee Junior College passed away over the weekend.

Brother Paul was a good and relational man who took great interest in the progression of Ambrose Treacy College and was a terrific supporter of ours.

Brother Ted Magee

Further sad news has come to hand with the news that Brother Ted Magee has passed away last night.

Ted is a former member of the Oceania Provincial Leadership Team and was the final Christian Brothers Principal of St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and the founder of the House pastoral system in our schools. Magee House at Terrace is named in his honour.

The ATC Community prays in thanksgiving for Brother Paul Conn and Brother Ted Magee, their families and Brothers in community.

May they both Rest in Peace and May Perpetual Light Shine Upon them.

Live Jesus in Our Hearts-Forever!

ANZAC Day

The engagement of our students in our ANZAC Day Liturgies is always affirming and inspiring.

The central theme of our guest speaker, Dr Rick Maher’s address was about the reality that our society is increasingly secular and yet, our young people yearn for meaning and ritual in their lives. Watching the faces and eyes of our students throughout the ceremonies is a stark affirmation of this truth. The way they listen, watch and pay their respects is most moving.

Rick emphasised that at the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month each year at the Australian National War Memorial, the sunlight shines only on the word LOVE.

As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, we believe that love is God. As I watched our young people and their engagement on Friday, I prayed for them and with them in continued hope for peace in our world and in thanksgiving for the love shared for their families, friends, our country and our values by the service women and men of Australia.

Dash for Crash

The annual Dash for Crash is a partnership between the McMeniman Family and the Ambrose Treacy College Foundation.

It is being held at the College on 25 May.

We would love to have as many members of our community be part of this event either as a participant or volunteer.

We need your support please!

Damien McMeniman attended Nudgee Junior College and his sons, Oliver and Hamish are graduates of ATC. Damien and Marie are great supporters of ATC and we are grateful.

Damien was an outstanding graduate, professional, husband, father and friend.

Damien loved our school and one of his passions was running. His friends, family and he loved running together and when Damien passed away, they established the Dash for Crash originally as a celebration of his life and subsequently, this fortunately extended to celebrating Damien through the running festival being hosted and facilitated at the College.

Through the Dash for Crash we are very grateful that the McMeniman family has donated over $30000 to the. ATC College Foundation in support of a bursary for a young boy whose family may not otherwise be able to afford an ATC education to join our school.

Our dream and aim, is to raise enough funds to one day, offer the Damien McMeniman Bursary to a future ATC graduate.

Please be part of this community event.

Parent/Teacher/ Student Feedback Meetings

Our teaching staff are busy preparing for these meetings on Thursday evening and Friday. We look forward to these important conversations and thank you for your engagement and support of the work shared between your son and his teachers.

A simple framework that I always share at these times is useful for our youngest students through to our oldest. Obviously, there is not much point to these conversations if the three-way partnership does not walk away without a plan!

For each student in each subject:

What am I going to KEEP doing? (What is working well for me and my strengths?)

What am I going to STOP doing? (What is not supporting my best effort?)

What am I going to START doing? (What is a new habit and skill which will help me to improve?)

Anyone of any age who is honest with themselves about these questions and puts their reflections into practice is bound to

Improve their processes and practices.

Community Prayers

Lord, we pray for those in our community who are suffering. Be with them in this time of hardship and uncertainty. Give comfort and peace to those who have lost loved ones. May their sorrow be turned into strength, and their distress turned into peace. May our hearts remain loving and pure as we seek to always be compassionate to those around us.

God Bless.

Chris Ryan, College Principal
