The world is facing unprecedented challenges – social, economic and environmental – driven by accelerating globalisation and an even faster rate of technological development. Consequently, students must be prepared for a world of unprecedent change - for jobs that have not yet been created; for technologies that have not yet been invented; and to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated.
The ATC Pathways/Careers Program aims to develop the values, attributes and skills students need to be informed, adaptive and resilient in this changing world of work. It is tailored to meet the developmental stages of students in the Middle and Senior Schools and adopts a student-centred approach supporting the value of an individual pathway plan where all pathways are presented as valid and valued. The program utilises the ATC Careers website and a Careers Bulletin is published every month with up-to-date information about careers, university course information, Open Days and industry insights.
The ATC Skills and Pathways Program consists of four phases:
Year 8 – Developing an awareness of the personal skills and attributes required for work
Year 9 – Understanding the significance of transferable employability skills
Year 10 – Making decisions about a Senior School pathway and developing a SET Plan
Years 11 and 12 - Implementing a plan of action for post school further education and employment.
This program is supported by opportunities for students to meet individually with the Head of Pathways to discuss their subject choices, work experience or school-based apprenticeship/traineeship opportunities and other pathway options. Year 12 students are particularly supported with their transition to post-Year 12 further study or employment.
The Pathways/Career Program offered at ATC, aims to ensure that our young men are well-prepared to tackle the current and future challenges of the world of work with a sense of optimism and hope.
