A wonderful annual occasion is the beautiful ATC Jazz by the River to held on Saturday, 18 October 4pm to 8pm. This year, we hope that this evening can be a celebration of our first decade as Ambrose Treacy College and we would love to see as many people in our community as possible there. Our brilliant musicians will entertain and this year, we have a special feature of a past student's super band that has commenced rehearsals in earnest! Teaching and Learning Framework
Our Learning Leadership Team (LLT) has been working hard this year on the development of a new teaching and learning framework for launch in 2026. This project stems from our engagement with the Australian Council for Educational Research School Improvement Tool and is a strategic priority for the College. I thank the Learning Leadership Team for their diligent work as this comes together.
This week, Dean of Learning, Ms Liana Baillie and Assistant Dean of Learning: Senior School, Ms Angela Simpson are with EREA Colleges peers in Canberra on a student tour of schools looking at learning approaches and models relevant to our new framework which we will share and explain as it is finalised in the coming months.
Year 12 Mock Exams
Best wishes to our Senior cohort who commence a fortnight of what is called “mock” or “practice” exams today in preparation for their external exams in Term Four. The process and model are very different to what it was whether as a parent, if you are a TE (Tertiary Entrance) person like me or an OP (Overall Performance) person like many, or for those from a different state or country.
For students who are attaining an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), the external exams for each subject cover material from the entire course with Maths and Science subjects weighted at 50% of the final mark and the remainder at 25%. These exams are called EA (External Assessment) and all previous assessment IA (Internal Assessment). Thus, these final exams are very important.
The mock exams are often deliberately very challenging, and many students experience a degree of surprise with how challenging they can be. The whole process of the external exams with procedures, rules and conditions are emphasised so that the students become very familiar and comfortable within the environment and know what to expect and how best to manage themselves. The entire process of taking mock exams seriously through engagement with a positive attitude is vital.
All new material has now been finished for some weeks, and the focus is revision and practice. I thank staff and parents for their support of our senior cohort at this vital time and wish all students the very best.
Greater Brisbane Conference (GBC) Athletics
Best wishes to our Track and Field athletes and coaches for this Inter-School Carnival today. There has been investment in coaching, facilities and approach in improving this domain of sport at ATC. We look forward to the challenge of this carnival which serves as a positive preparation for the harder AIC carnival next term. Well done to our Seniors who have led the way and good luck to all athletes.
Year 11 Sociable
Best wishes to our Year 11 Cohort as they prepare for the signpost event of their Sociable/Semi-Formal. Thank you to Ms Claire Currey and Mr Conor Finn for their organisation and to all staff who will join the students in enjoying the evening.
