2025 ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award

Two years ago, Ambrose Treacy College commenced a tradition whereby today, we acknowledge our incoming leaders but also take the opportunity to celebrate some great leadership from across this year. We have three awards to be announced today.

The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork awards started in 2006 to recognise students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and broader local community. At the same time, they recognise those who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, characteristics that are integral to Australian society. In collaboration with the Australian Defence Force, we recognise and celebrate the leadership achievements of a Senior and Year 10 student. The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award recognises students who have demonstrated leadership qualities and values such as mateship, respect, humility and contribution to community. This award presents a $500 and $250 cheque for the Senior and Year 10 respectively.

Year 12 Student

Congratulations to this year’s Year 12 winner of the Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award Hayden Wessling.

The Year 12 recipient can be immensely proud. He has been nominated to receive this award because he displays the qualities of integrity, mateship, leadership, and selflessness – the very values that underpin service to others. He has consistently demonstrated humility in his leadership, strength of character in his decisions, and a genuine commitment to those around him. In both the classroom and the wider school community, he leads not by seeking recognition, but by building others up, working collaboratively, and modelling respect in every interaction. His ability to engage, to listen, and to encourage, speaks to the heart of what true leadership means. We affirm this student today not only for what he has already achieved, but also for the example he sets, and the promise of the leader he will continue to become. He is a fine example of what a Signum Fidei in our world can look like.

Year 10 Student

We also congratulate Cooper Beaumont, on his outstanding achievements who is the winner of the Year 10 Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award.

Cooper is a quiet, humble and compassionate person who always goes about his business in service to others. He consistently demonstrates the ADF Long Tan traits of courage, teamwork, resilience, and service through his willingness to step forward, take initiative, and place the needs of his peers and community before his own. In both academic and co-curricular settings, this student leads with quiet confidence, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility. He works with others generously, showing maturity, respect, and a determination to see those around him succeed. His actions reflect not only his personal integrity but also the values that strengthen a community. His contribution to the cultural programs at ATC is notable, gifting our community with song and music as part of the various orchestras and choirs at College events, liturgies, assemblies and masses. This student is an incredible ambassador for our school and we are proud to present this award to him today.

We affirm him today as a young man of character and leadership, who continues to inspire trust and respect through his example.
