In Gratitude for our Inspirational Mentors

Ambrose Treacy College joined the global church in celebrating the announcement of Pope Leo XIV and praying for his papacy, leadership and for peace in our troubled world. It has been wonderful to share in the excitement of our fellow Brisbane Catholic school, Villanova College, whose community are delighted at the announcement of an Augustinian Friar as Pope. Our own Dean of Faith and Mission, Ms Kate Garrone met Cardinal Robert Prevost before he became Pope when she was a part of the Augustinian community. The election of the Pope is a momentous and significant occasion. Pope Leo is the fifth elected Pope in my own life time and only the tenth in the last one hundred years. We hope and pray for him and for compassion, courage and true wisdom for his papacy.

Mother’s Day

Each May, in the Catholic tradition, we are reminded of the great love that Mary, the Mother of God had for her son, Jesus. Her leadership and example were extraordinary. She is the first and greatest disciple and the most courageous of role models. In giving thanks for the Mothers of the ATC community, we ask Mary the Mother of God to continue to look over them, protect them and give them strength for their journey from which all of our boys and our community benefit so greatly.

I hope that all of the Mums in the ATC community had a great day yesterday and we look forward to gathering with many of you on the evening of Wednesday 21 May at the annual Mothers in May celebration [Tickets via Parent Lounge, $35 inclusive of drinks, canapes and a gift.]

The role of motherhood is a most sacred and important blessing. Like all responsibilities, it is by no means a simple undertaking with so many facets and dimensions of the role in the lives of families and relationships. I am privileged to meet many ATC Mums across a myriad of settings in school life including some difficult and challenging pastoral scenarios. Of course, the thing that all mums have in common is unconditional and never ending love for their child no matter what the situation.

Year 12 Formal

I was very proud of the way in which our Year 12 students engaged with the special event of the Formal and hosted their partners on Friday evening. Thank you to all parents and caregivers for your support of your son and his partner. We had a little bit of unexpected excitement with what turned out to be a false alarm with an emergency evacuation during the evening and all of the young people present were simply outstanding in their calm and good-humoured co-operation throughout.

Thank you and congratulations to our organisers, Ms Suzanne Colette, Mr Conor Finn and Mr Brendan Flanagan and all of the staff who came to enjoy this milestone event with the group.

Dash for Crash

The big event is on Sunday 25 May starting at ATC at 7am. BBQ Breakfast and a Coffee Van will be onsite. Join us for a fun run or walk in support of the ATC Foundation. There remains opportunities to volunteer at Dash for Crash, an event which celebrates the life of ATC parent, Mr Damien McMeniman and raises funds for the College Foundation to provide a bursary for a future ATC student who otherwise may not be able to afford an ATC education. All the information is available via the links below.

Music partnership with St Aidan’s College

We look forward to tomorrow’s music workshop with the young women of St Aidan’s College which culminates in a special concert in the evening. This annual project is a great success and it is our turn to host this year. Thank you to Mr Jono Bolt and the co-curricular music team for providing this opportunity for our musicians.

Christian Brothers 150 Years

Queensland is celebrating 150 years of Christian Brothers Ministry with a series of breakfasts across our schools with a guest speaker about an important part of our story. Tomorrow, members of the Edmund Rice Network are gathering at St Patrick’s College, Shorncliffe to listen to our own Dean of Formation, Conor Finn speak about Brother Patrick Ambrose Treacy, the Founder of our schools in Australia. Conor holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the Australian Catholic University that focussed on the Charism; the particular gift of the Holy Spirit that Blessed Edmund Rice brought to his mission. We look forward to Conor sharing his great knowledge and insight with the wider network.

P&F Second Hand Uniform Shop

Thank you ATC mums Mel Kuflik and Sasha Tucker for their generous work in facilitating this successful initiative. ATC Dad, John Tucker did some work on the room on Brothers Oval to set up a room for storage and facilitation of this service conducted as an arm of the ATC Parents and Friends. Thank you!

We look forward to the shop opening this Friday morning and afternoon. Thank you also for all families who have contributed used items in support of other families. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. An example of where funds go is our great new flexible and portable stage that is used each week in the St Francis Xavier Centre for assemblies and a range of special occasions. This addition has been invaluable so thank you to the entire community.

Enrolments

We are presently completing Year 4 2026 enrolment interviews and have completed Year 7 2027 and 2028. Our waiting list for Year 7 2026 continues to grow.  It is always lovely to meet new families and the siblings of continuing families. Thank you to our current and last families for your referrals to friends and colleagues. A reminder to please register any siblings for these or future years with our Head of Enrolments, Ms Robyn Donaldson.

Community Prayers

Lord, we pray for those in our community who are suffering. Be with them in this time of hardship and uncertainty. Give comfort and peace to those who have lost loved ones. May their sorrow be turned into strength, and their distress turned into peace. May our hearts remain loving and pure as we seek to always be compassionate to those around us.

God bless,

Chris Ryan
