Book Week
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
— George R.R. Martin
Book Week wraps up tomorrow in the Junior School with our much-anticipated Book Parade. It’s been a vibrant and engaging week, offering something for everyone.
At this week’s assembly, students were captivated by author Nick Earls and author-illustrator Ben Woods, who shared insights into the imagination, perseverance, and resilience required to be a writer. Their stories reminded us of the human creativity behind every page we turn.
A special highlight was Tuesday evening’s Twilight Event for parents and their sons, featuring author Richard Yaxley. The evening was a great success, fostering connection and a shared love of literature.
These were just two of many wonderful Book Week events. A heartfelt thank you to all the guest authors and illustrators who led inspiring workshops across all year levels. Special thanks to our dedicated library team: Ms Scott, Ms Burton, Ms Hornsby, Ms Bray, and Ms Brink. I’m already looking forward to next year!
Sport
This week marks the biggest round of AIC and GBC sport for the term. Tennis, football, and some basketball teams are playing away—best of luck to all involved!
Closer to home, I encourage everyone to head to ATC this Saturday morning for a bumper round of Basketball and Rugby League. As a young school, these moments are vital for building community, culture, and spirit. Our school captains led a rousing cheer practice at assembly, challenging every student to show up and support.
If you're playing, stay and cheer on the teams after your match—especially the 1st Rugby League team. Let’s create a vibrant atmosphere on Jack Bowers Oval. Grab a coffee, something to eat, and get behind ATC. Students are reminded to wear their uniform when supporting. Go the blue, white, and green!
Week 7 Highlights
Three standout events are on the calendar next week:
Parents and Friends Association
The Parents and Friends AGM will be held in the Waterford Auditorium at 6:30pm on Tuesday, 2 September. All are welcome to attend. We’re calling on community members who are keen to contribute to the organisation of the many events the P&F runs throughout the school year—your support makes a real difference.
Please note that Friday, 5 September is a pupil-free day across all schools. ATC will use this day to host an Induction Day for new students entering Years 4, 5, 6, and 7 in 2026. As part of the day, the highly successful Second-Hand Uniform Shop, run by the P&F, will be open to support new families.
We need your help! If you have good-quality formal or sports uniforms that your son no longer needs, please drop them off—clean and in good condition—at Main Reception.

Nick also spoke on our school assembly about the importance of reading and the joy of storytelling. With a career spanning award-winning novels, theatre adaptations and even a Disney film, Nick inspired our boys to pick up a book today and discover the worlds waiting inside.

This retreat will be facilitated by the Dean of Faith and Mission, Heads of Year 8, and the Year 8 Class teachers. There will be a variety of presenters throughout the retreat. Our focus is on the Power of Relationships and we aim to help our students to deepen their understanding of relating with others and taking action to respond to needs. There are intentional opportunities to reflect on their relationships within the context of our Courage framework that is key to our formation of young men at Ambrose Treacy College. Please see the letter on the ATC App for further information on the Retreat.

Year 8 Mass
A meaningful reminder of the importance of kindness, compassion, and respect was reflected in the Year 8 celebration of Mass as we explored the theme of relationships, love, and the ways we connect with one another. Deepening and strengthening the bonds within the #ATCommunity will form part of the impactful messaging at the Year 8 Retreat next week.
We are grateful to all who contributed to this special occasion, in particular, our parents who attended, the wonderful musicians, our readers, altar server and Father Gillen.
SERVICE
Community Service
A huge shout out to ATC students who have worked on the Kenmore Memorial in Pike Park, as part of our Service Program. Charlie and Liam have cleaned plaques honouring local fallen servicemen and women at the memorial under the supervision of RSL sub-branch President, Mr Maher . This task has extra special meaning for both boys as their fathers are Air Force servicemen. Well done Charlie and Liam for being a true #SignumFidei in our community.#SignofFaith #EREA

SPORT NEWS
Football
Securing some convincing wins through disciplined defence and excellent attacking play, Round 3 of the GBC Football season at Sheldon College was a great day for our Juniors and Seniors. The Intermediates controlled much of their match and created plenty of chances, but in the end the game finished in a hard-fought draw. This weekend marks a special occasion as all of our soccer teams will finally play at home against Redeemer. We look forward to a big day of ATC Spirit around our fields and wish all teams the very best of luck.
