Coming Up Week 6

Service Assembly

Service is one of the Three Pillars that guides ATC. It is a humble and tangible expression of our Catholic faith. At our recent assembly, I was moved by the number of students recognised for exceptional service in front of their proud families. These students made a conscious choice to volunteer, help, care, or advocate for those who are vulnerable in our society. No one compelled them—they listened, reflected, and responded to a calling that demonstrates their faith in action.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal

In these final weeks of term, every student has an opportunity to serve by supporting our Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal. Ms Rebecca Scott, our Teacher Librarian and a dedicated St Vincent de Paul volunteer, spoke passionately at assembly. She helped us see the powerful connection between the simple act of donating a hamper item and the real families in our local community who will benefit from this generosity.

This year, each Homeroom has been allocated a specific family to provide for—transforming what could feel like a faceless basket into a meaningful act of care. Through this approach, students can reflect on how their actions of service create positive change and bring hope to others during the Christmas season.

e-Scooter Safety Notice

This week, we address a continued safety concern within our school community regarding the use of e-scooters by students. According to the Queensland Department of Transport, there are specific rules and regulations for riding e-scooters:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to ride e-scooters.
  • Children aged 12 to 15 years must be supervised by an adult while riding.
  • Riders aged 16 and above can ride e-scooters independently.
  • E-scooters must not travel faster than 25km/h.
  • On shared paths or footpaths, the maximum allowable speed for an e-scooter is 12km/h.
  • Riders must wear a helmet at all times.
  • E-scooters are only permitted on paths and roads where the speed limit is 50km/h or less.

It is crucial that all students adhere to these rules to ensure their safety and the safety of others. We urge parents to discuss these regulations with their children and recommend that you supervise your children if they fall within the 12 to 15-year age bracket and are using e-scooters.

Important Implementation Notice: In alignment with Queensland regulations and in the interest of student safety, we implemented a school policy that prohibits any student under the age of 16 from riding an e-scooter to school, which was effective from Monday, 16 June 2025. We ask all parents and caregivers to support this decision by ensuring their child travels to and from school using appropriate and compliant modes of transport. Your cooperation in reinforcing these safety measures is greatly appreciated. Check the Qld Government ‘Street Smarts’ webpage for safety tips and rules for riders. Mt Sion Library Welcome Montessori Children’s House

What a morning it was when the Junior School welcomed #IMCH Indooroopilly Montessori Children’s House to Mt Sion Library! Boys paired up to read, play and learn alongside the younger students and the engagement was joyful - big buddies reading with patience and enthusiasm, little buddies leaning in, laughing and asking questions. Moments like this grow confidence, empathy and a love of books for everyone. We’re so proud of our #ATCboys for being kind, respectful, mature and fun—true Signs of Faith in service and action.

SERVICE NEWS

Service Awards

This year has been an outstanding one for Service at Ambrose Treacy College, with students across all year levels contributing an incredible number of hours to making a difference in their communities. From local volunteering initiatives and environmental clean-ups to mentoring younger students and supporting charity fundraisers, our young men have shown initiative, empathy, and a genuine commitment to living out the College’s values. The collective total of service hours (19,000) completed this year reflects not only dedication but also the spirit of teamwork and compassion that defines our community. What makes this achievement truly remarkable is the diversity of service undertaken. Whether students were serving meals at community kitchens, participating in immersion experiences, or simply finding small but meaningful ways to help others, each act contributed to a culture of generosity and purpose. These efforts remind us that service is not just about reaching a target number of hours, it’s about building character, strengthening community ties, and understanding the power of giving back. We are immensely proud of every student who gave their time and heart to serve others this year.

IT NEWS

Laptop Audit

At the end of Term 4 students in Years 4-10 are required to return their laptops for the annual audit and maintenance of the machines. During the next few weeks, an audit will be completed during homerooms to identify parts that need to be ordered to complete repairs at the end of Term 4. Damage of IT equipment (intentional or accidental) will incur a repair bill for the family. Devices are covered by Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) insurance for a limited number of parts per claim with an excess of $70. Once the claim limit has been exceeded, an additional repair cost will be incurred. Please refer to the ATC Acceptable Technology Use Policy on Parent Lounge and Student Café under Links for further details. Parents will be notified if a student’s laptop is identified during the initial audit as requiring a repair at the end of the year.

  • Year 11 - Laptops requiring repair will need to be returned once a student has completed their final exam. Once repaired, laptops will be ready for collection in December
  • Years 4 - 10 - Laptops will be returned to all students in Week 1, 2026

Contributions to assist with the catering costs are entirely voluntary and can be made via your Parent Lounge account.

We also need helpers on Tuesday 2 December in the NJ Hall, to set up, serve food and drinks and pack down after lunch. If you can assist, please email Catherine Jackson, the event coordinator.
