COMING UP WEEK 9

As we come to the close of another term, I want to take a moment to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday. This is a precious time to slow down, reconnect with our families and communities, and reflect on the many blessings in our lives. Amid the busyness of the year, it’s important to pause and appreciate what truly matters—our relationships, our well-being, and the shared moments that bring us closer together.

Let this holiday season be a time of gratitude, love, forgiveness, and compassion. These values not only enrich our personal lives but also reflect the very heart of our college community. I encourage our students to lead with humility by carrying these values into their homes and neighbourhoods, treating others with kindness, empathy, and understanding.

Once again, it has been a privilege to work with your sons, alongside a dedicated team of staff, as we continue our shared mission of building men of courage. We look forward to welcoming you back refreshed for the new term.

  • Last day of Term 2: 3pm Friday 20 June 2025
  • First day of Term 3: 8.30am Monday 14 July 2025

School Officer Day: Celebrating the Support Staff Who Keep Our Schools Thriving

School Officer Day is our opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital role support staff play in education. Schools simply would not function without the dedication and expertise of support staff. Their work ensures that learning environments are safe, organised, and enriched with resources and care. To show our appreciation, we held a lovely morning tea in Warril Place, bringing staff together to say thank you and celebrate the incredible contributions of our support team. To all our support staff: thank you for your commitment, your professionalism, and the difference you make every day.

ATC People and Places - Mr Bernard Wong

As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary at ATC, we ask long serving staff to reflect on their journey and share their thoughts on the past 10 years.

"They say, 'time flies when you're having fun' and the past ten years have been both rewarding and enjoyable, despite their challenges. Returning to ATC as a former NJC staff member felt like coming home. From the very beginning, it has been a welcoming space—not just for me, but for my family as well. Throughout my time here, I have built meaningful friendships with staff and the families of former students. My two children have grown up alongside the children of other staff members, and along with my wife, they take great pride in the close-knit community I am privileged to be a part of. Ambrose Treacy College has played a significant role in shaping my journey, both as an educator and as a family man. Its story continues to influence me, and I look forward to the journey ahead."

LEARNING

Year 10 Design

Our Year 10 Designers had a wonderful time turning dreams into reality as they assembled their Montessori chair designs. Throughout the process students have considered the wants and needs of their clients, strength requirements of material and their own design aesthetics to develop their working prototypes. The chairs they have created were even strong enough to hold their classmates!

FAITH AND MISSION

'Doco in a Day' project - Krispy Cremes

ATC students showed enormous enthusiasm to support a worthy cause, raising funds for the @edmundricefoundation. Inspired by the recent 'Doco in a Day' project which powerfully shared the experience of Edmund Rice students at the Ruben Centre in Kenya, the documentary makers organised a Donut Day fundraiser! To no one's surprise, 600 #krispykreme donuts sold out in a record time! Thanks to all our students who planned, organised, served and ate donuts on the day! We are looking forward to another fundraiser to support @Edmund Rice Foundation and their work with the passionate and committed learners at Ruben. That means another Donut Day in Term Three! Bring your student card or EFTPOS card and help our friends in Kenya. Watch the ATC Documentary HERE and give us a LIKE.

SERVICE

The final eWaste service event this semester will be Saturday 21 June 2pm

ATC students are invited to support eWaste Kenmore on Saturday 21 June at 2pm, for a fantastic initiative that gives new life to old electrical items. Donating parts from old computers, TVs, toasters, microwaves (and more!) helps reduce landfill and supports vital recycling efforts.

Students can also get hands-on by dismantling and sorting donated items — all in a welcoming, social environment that provides a sense of purpose, particularly for some of our less advantaged community members. It's a win for the planet and for people! Look around the house and ask your family, friends, and neighbours to start collecting old electronics.

Zach from 6L will be onsite to help you unload donations or to welcome you to the workshop area.

  • Contact: email Ms Maryanne Gillespie, Head of Year at EMAIL
  • When: Saturday 21 June 2-4 pm
  • Where: eWaste Connection, Kenmore Community Centre 98 Brookfield Road, Kenmore Hills, 4069

Bring: Donations of old electronic goods

FORMATION

The Year 11 SociABLE will be held in Term 3 on Thursday 4 September at Victoria Park Ballroom from 7pm to 10pm. Professional photographers will be on site from 6.30pm and will be taking photographs of individuals and their partners upon their arrival. More information to follow with ticketing opening in Term 3.

MUSIC

SAVE THE DATE | QCMF 14-17 August 2025

The Queensland Catholic Colleges Music Festival (QCMF) schedule has been released! All students in Taiko, Choirs, Bands and Ensembles perform at this annual festival so please ensure the dates are in your family calendar.

Concert Band and Junior Band

A delicious breakfast and excellent music are the perfect warming combo for a cold winter's morning! Our Concert Band and Junior Band entertained families as part of our Breakfast Concert series, showcasing their progress since their first performance in February! What a big improvement! Out with the tooting and in with the smooth tunes! As the semester ends, all 21 ATC bands, ensembles and choirs now turn their attention to preparing for #QCMF - Queensland Catholic Colleges Music Festival being held from14-17 August. We can't wait to see you all on the big stage!

CLUBS

Queen’s Gambit Chess Club

The Queen’s Gambit Chess Club had a great term, and it was fantastic to see the students sharpening their skills and learning new strategies to elevate their game. There was a great sense of teamwork as they help each other master new moves and tactics. With winter here, it’s the perfect way to stay warm, challenge the mind, and have some fun!

Gardening Club

Gardening through the winter teaches patience, resilience, and the wonder of watching nature thrive even in the coldest months. Despite the cold and slow growth last term, our gardeners in Garden Club continued to show up and create a space they could return to and enjoy every day – with a smile!

SPORTS

Football

Heading into the final games of the season tomorrow, we wish our Football players the best of luck for Saturday. We also offer a huge thank you to our supporters on the sidelines each week. Here are some highlights from last Saturday's Football at Somerfields.
