Be the Change You Wish to See in the World

A person who has played a vital role in our first decade is Dr Conor Finn, our Dean of Formation. Conor concludes his time with us at the end of this year as he has been appointed to the promoted position of Head of Secondary Campus at Southern Cross Catholic College with Brisbane Catholic Education.

Conor is most deserving of this appointment and on behalf of the extended ATC community, I warmly congratulate him. He has served for 14 years in the transition from Nudgee Junior College to the establishment of Ambrose Treacy College with distinction. We will farewell him properly as the year continues but I take this initial opportunity to say a deep thank you and well done to Conor. The role of leadership of pastoral care in a large school, is a complex and challenging one and we have been blessed by Conor’s selfless, values-based example for an extended time.

Mrs Georgie Ingham-Myers who has contributed very strongly and generously at ATC in her roles in the Learning Office and with the Deputy Principal’s Office is commencing in a new role at Stuartholme School next term. We thank and congratulate Georgie and will miss her exemplary work, good humour and kindness.

Mr Dan Watts, currently Acting Co-ordinator of Middle School Mathematics while Ms Tegan Kent is on parental leave, has let me know that he has accepted a teaching position at The Gap State High next year to support his young children more. We wish Dan all the very best and thank him for his positive contribution at ATC.

Today we have welcomed three new staff to an Induction Day at the College, and we look forward to welcoming them next Term:

Mr Chris Charnock joins us next term as Assistant Dean of Learning: Junior School.

Ms Keli Nugent joins us next term in a contract teaching position with the Business Education team while Ms Caitlin Crowley is on parental leave.

Mr Tristan Hart joins us next term in a contract position with the English team while Mr Liam Maguire is on long service leave.

Edmund Rice Global Youth Leadership Program (ERGYLP)

We are thrilled to welcome international guests from the Edmund Rice Beyond Borders Global Youth Leadership Program from Thursday 18 September to Wednesday 24 September. Twenty students and 4 staff members from Edmund Rice schools in India, South Africa and Uruguay, will be joining us at ATC. They are from St John’s CBC, South Africa; St Vincent’s High School, India and Stella Maris College, Uruguay.

Fourteen ATC Students are joining the program focused on young people leading with an Edmund Rice focus towards service and responding to the needs in our communities and our world. We are so delighted they will join us for a day in the life of ATC on Friday 19 September. A heartfelt thank you to our Faith and Mission team, Edmund Rice Beyond Borders and to the many staff and student volunteers who have made this experience possible.

It is envisaged that this program will evolve into a cycle of global immersion partnerships with these fellow Catholic schools in the Edmund Rice tradition in South Africa, India and Uruguay with ATC students and staff having the opportunity to travel and serve, learn and lead with St John’s, St Vincent’s and Stella Maris for years to come.

We look forward to also welcoming Executive Director of Edmund Rice Education Australia, Dr Liam Smith and Director of EREA Global Engagement, Mr Brian Garrone to the College this Friday to help launch our program and welcome our global guests to Australia.

College Tour

This Thursday afternoon sees our final College Tour program take place in the afternoon with over 200 guests registered to attend. I thank our generous staff and student leaders for hosting these vital events throughout the year.

I thank our parent body that remain our strongest marketing and enrolment strategy for your support and recommendation to family, friends and contacts. Time and time again when facilitating enrolments, it is your recommendation that is shared. Thank you. CLICK HERE TO SHARE THE REGISTRATION LINK WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Sport and Culture

As we enter the final quarter of the year, there is still plenty to happen in both of these dynamic domains of school life but I take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our Year 12 students who are very much commencing their final times of representing the blue, white and green for their service, effort and example.

Congratulations to our Football, Basketball and Rugby League playing Year 12 students on their years of service to the blue, white and green.

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Football teams who took out GBC premierships over the weekend. Our Seniors had a massive win with College Captain, Ted Challenor, scoring a hat trick in his final game for the College.

We are very pleased with the development of our Rugby League program in our second season. In 2024, we won 4 AIC games and in 2025, we have won 16 games. Thank you to our coaching staff and parent supporters in green caps each Saturday! Thank you to our volunteers in the canteens and everyone who gets involved. It is great to see so many parents gather as part of our community on a Saturday.

We look forward to AIC Track and Field, Arts Week and Jazz by the River. Please come along and engage with the production of The Outsiders, our annual Student Visual Art Display and come one, come all for a festive celebration of ten years of ATC by the river at our annual Jazz by the River concert!

End of Term Break

I trust our students and staff will enjoy a well-earned break and anyone travelling is safe and healthy. Term Four is a whirly gig of events, ritual, ceremony and a huge focus on supporting our Year 12 students in their external exams and beyond the gates process. We look forward to a positive final quarter. Best wishes to our students and staff for a well needed and earned break.

Go the Broncos!

God Bless,

Chris Ryan
