Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival (QCMF)

The QCMF started yesterday and continues throughout the weekend. Mr Bolt described QCMF at last Tuesday’s assembly as ‘the grand final for our musicians’. I wish our musicians every success as their hard work culminates in their performances. I also take this opportunity to thank the music staff for their organisation of QCMF, and more broadly, their dedication to the music program.

Hosted by Villanova College, QCMF is the premier event on the Queensland Catholic Schools music calendar, showcasing excellence in music education across a wide range of genres—from classical to contemporary. Performers range in age from six to eighteen and participate in ensembles including brass, wind, string, percussion, jazz, choral, and contemporary music.

I’m looking forward to attending this Saturday. Get tickets and find out more: QCMF

Science Week (15 to 23 August)

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. It features more than 2,500 events around Australia. From hands-on explorations of the science behind beach safety for families to the mathematics of quilting, there's an event to suit everyone. Over three million people participate in science events across the nation. The purposes of National Science Week are to:

  • draw the nation’s attention towards the sciences
  • spark broad interest and engagement in the sciences
  • provide an opportunity for all Australians, including those historically underrepresented in the sciences, to participate in science events and activities
  • foster partnerships between the community, research organisations and industry
  • trial new and innovative science communication activities

At ATC the Science department is running a range of activities to inspire and connect students to science. One of the interesting activities we heard about from our Year 11 Science Ambassadors at assembly this week was the ‘Mission Sprouts Program’, launched by astronaut and Australian of the Year Katherine Bennell-Pegg. Students are running an experiment to compare a set of plant seeds sourced from the International Space Station with a set of plant seeds sourced on earth. It promises to be a great opportunity for students to be curious about their world.

Book Week 2026 at ATC - A Symphony of Stories

There is plenty to look forward to as ATC celebrates Book Week 2026: A Symphony of Stories, with our libraries and classrooms coming alive through a wonderful program designed to celebrate books, reading, creativity and the power of storytelling.

The week will launch with our Junior School Book Fair in Mt Sion on Monday 24 August from 7.30am, and families are warmly invited to pop in before school to browse the wonderful range of books while enjoying tea, coffee and pastries.

Across the week, students from Years 4-12 will also have the opportunity to hear from an outstanding line-up of visiting Australian authors and illustrators, including Vicki Bennett, Pat Flynn, Megan Jacobson, Carla Salmon, Brian Falkner, Victoria Carless, Nat Amoore, Kate Foster and Michael Gerard Bauer, through presentations and workshops tailored to different year levels. These visits offer our students a fantastic opportunity to meet the people behind the books, discover where stories and ideas come from, and perhaps even be inspired to read - or write - a little more themselves.

Families are also warmly invited to join us for our special Parents and Sons Twilight Evening with acclaimed Australian author Carla Salmon on Tuesday 25 August from 5.30pm-7.00pm. There will be pizza and drinks before Carla shares insights into her writing and her popular novels We Saw What You Started and We Did It Anyway. Tickets for this special evening can be purchased through Parent Lounge.

Book Week is an important opportunity for us to continue building a strong culture of reading at ATC - reminding our boys that reading is not simply a school skill, but something that develops imagination, vocabulary, empathy, knowledge and curiosity, while opening the door to new ideas, new worlds and new possibilities. We look forward to a wonderful week of stories, authors, books and reading across the College!

FAITH AND MISSION

Service Hours Reminder – Term 3 Deadline

As we move through Term 3, this is a reminder to all students and families that the deadline for logging Service Hours is Friday, 18 September (the final day of Term 3).

We encourage all students to ensure they have completed and logged the required number of service hours for their year level before the deadline.

For those who have already met the minimum requirement, we encourage you to continue serving your community and go above and beyond. Students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to service will be recognised later this year through our Gold, Silver, and Bronze Service Awards.

Service is an important part of the Ambrose Treacy College experience, allowing students to make a meaningful contribution to others while developing compassion, leadership, and a spirit of generosity.

Please don't leave your service hours until the last minute, log your hours before Friday, 18 September and continue making a positive difference in our community.

Further details are available on the App.

ATC Community Mass

Our ATC families are warmly invited to join us for our fortnightly ATC Community Mass in The Chapel of St Joseph here on campus.

Mass will be celebrated by Fr Ray Sanchez from The Fort Passionist Community, Oxley, and will begin at 8:00am, concluding at approximately 8:25am.

As a Catholic school community, we value opportunities to gather in prayer, celebrate our faith, and strengthen the connections that unite us. We are delighted to extend this invitation to parents, carers, grandparents, and other family members who may wish to join us.

Family members attending Mass are asked to sign in at Front Reception upon arrival. Our staff will then be happy to direct you to the Chapel.

Whether you are able to attend regularly or from time to time, your presence will be greatly appreciated as we come together in faith and community.

SPORT

Senior Queensland Volleyball Schools Cup

Our 2026 1st VI Volleyballers have ended their season with an amazing result at the Senior Queensland Volleyball Schools Cup competing in the Honours Division. The boys battled hard against the strongest volleyball programs schools in QLD have to offer, proudly representing ATC and finishing 6th overall. A countback of set points was all that separated us from a top 4 finish and a potential medal. The boys should be proud of their efforts.
