One hundred years on from the first ANZAC Day march in Brisbane, a group of Ambrose Treacy College students represented the College at the Indooroopilly Memorial Service in Keating Park. The boys gathered on one side of the park at 7am, dressed smartly in their formal uniforms, with shoes polished and some of the students proudly displaying medals of loved ones on their blazer.
Accompanying other local schools and community groups and led by a police vehicle, students marched towards the Memorial monument before participating in the Memorial service. The students from years 4 to 9 stood quietly and respectfully as they listened to the solemn stories and then joined in singing hymns and praying for fallen soldiers and their families.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all participating students and their families who represented Ambrose Treacy College so proudly, and for remembering the selfless acts of the men and women who made, and continue to make, sacrifices for our great nation.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget
