Waving the Blue White and Green Flag

It has been an extremely busy few weeks for the ATC Sporting Program. Our three football codes, AFL, Rugby and Soccer, have enjoyed a number of great matches and tournaments over the past eight weeks and our Year 9 & 10 Volleyballers enjoyed a trip to Toowoomba. It is extremely important that all families register their sons Semester 2 Sporting Preferences prior to the cut off at 4:00pm this Friday 8 June.

We will be entering team numbers and allocating coaches based on the number of boys signing on for each sport so it is extremely important that boys have their name down on respective lists. Following the sign on, there will only be limited places available in our Term 3 Sports,so I urge you to sign on early.

Volleyball Schools Cup at Toowoomba

Our Year 9 and 10 Volleyball teams recently travelled up to chilly Toowoomba for one of the biggest school based sporting tournaments in Brisbane. The boys played three long days of volleyball against quality oppositions, with both teams performing above and beyond expectations. Both teams had very successful starts to the tournament by finishing on top of their pool and moving directly through to the finals stage. The Year 10 team played outstanding volleyball throughout the weekend and were able to come away with a sixth place finish in a tough division. More importantly, a number of boys showed a high level of improvement across the three days which will set them up well for the tour to Melbourne. The Year 9 team looked unbeatable as they progressed through to the gold medal match, only to narrowly be defeated in a tight three set game. With a number of new faces to volleyball in the team, the boys played extremely well under the guidance of Tim Walker and certainly impressed the other schools that were competing. Congratulations to all boys who took part in the tournament, it was certainly a very successful weekend for ATC.

QCIS Indoor Football

On Friday 25 May we had six teams take part in the Annual QCIS Indoor Football Tournament held at Darra. With boys spread across a number of divisions, ATC was set up to repeat the success we had at this tournament last year. Once again, this event was one of the highlights of the football season with the boys enjoying the modified version of the game against a number of different opponents. We achieved some great success at the tournament with the following results.

  • Year 6 – Runner Up
  • Year 7 – Runner Up
  • Year 8 – Winner
  • Year 9/10 – Winner
  • Opens 1 – Winner
  • Opens 2 – Third place

Congratulations to all boys and coaches who took part in the tournament. The football season wraps up this weekend with games against St Peter’s Primary and TSS Secondary.

AFLQ Schools Cup

The showcase tournament of our AFL season has recently finished for our Primary – Year 5 & 6, Junior – Year 7-9 and Senior -Year 10 & 11 teams. The boys participated in their qualifying rounds for the AFLQ Schools Cup. As is the case with this tournament, you are never quite sure who you will come up against in the cut-throat knockout format. Following long preparations and practice games, our Junior and Senior teams both played extremely well and only just came up short by finishing second in their respective competitions but missing out on progressing to the next stage. Our Primary team may have been one of the more unlucky teams in the competition, winning five of their six games but coming up against an extremely tough opponent who narrowly beat the boys by one goal. With all teams finishing second in their respective tournaments, it certainly does set up a bright future for AFL at the College.

Rugby Home Day – Saturday 9 June

This coming Saturday we have our biggest home rugby day for the past two seasons. We will have our Year 4, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 13A, U14, U15 & U16/17 teams playing at home against Nudgee College and St Peter’s Lutheran College. We invite all ATC boys to come and support for the day as it will be a great atmosphere on Jack Bowers Ovals. All boys that come and support will receive a free sausage from off the BBQ during the U16/17 games at 12:30pm as the boys play their final home game for the season. We are looking forward to seeing waves of blue, white and green supporting the boys on Saturday as it promises to be a great day of footy.

See last week’s Rugby action on our Facebook page.
