The Intent to Finish Strong - a Now or Never Proposition

As we commence Week 10 of Term 3, the primary focus is exams and assessment. I wish everyone all the best for this important assessment time and, in a special way our Year 11 and 12 students. After all the hard work comes a well-earned and much needed break.

Plans are in place to manage the situation should a lockdown be required, and we will be able to pivot quickly should this be the case. Year 12 mock exams would be prioritised to be facilitated from home with supervision via TEAMs and Years 4-11 assessment would be postponed to the beginning of Term 4 with online lessons commencing immediately. Hopefully, this scenario will not be required. Thank you in anticipation of your support should this plan need to be actioned.

Co-curricular Music

Congratulations to our ATC Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Junior Band, ATC Jazz Orchestra, Big Band and Jazz Ensemble who shared their talents and skills with parents and caregivers at the Mini-Concert Series last week. It was a rare opportunity for musicians to play in front of an audience and well done to our students, Music staff, and their supporters.

Ms Brijette Brookes, flute and saxophone teacher, finishes her time at ATC today and has been a valued member of the Music team for 10 years. We thank Brijette for her strong contribution to the musical life of the College and wish her well.

Co-curricular Sport

Last Saturday saw our sporting program begin to wind down for 2021 with the last round of GBC sport. Congratulations and thank you to students, staff, and parents for a huge year of court and field sports. I especially congratulate and thank our Year 12 sportsmen who may have pulled on the blue, white, and green for the final time. Thank you for your example, effort and passion for ATC. Congratulations to our Co-curricular Sport team of Damian Steele, Jarrod Turner, Lisa Mortlock, Michael Wright, and Brandon Wellington for their efforts. We wish our athletes the very best for the Greater Brisbane Conference Athletics Carnival this Wednesday and our Basketballers the same for the Queensland All Schools Tournament on the Gold Coast later this week. We farewell Michael Wright this week after a brief time with us and thank him for his work in the Sport Office administration and wish him well.

Staff News

Along with Brijette and Michael, we wish Ms Christina Xavier well as she goes on maternity leave this week. Also, Ms Alicia Madigan has been appointed as Co-ordinator of Middle School Religious Education and we congratulate her on this. However, Alicia is also expecting her first baby and will take leave in 2022 so excited congratulations are in order. We congratulate and thank Mr Thomas Schaab who has been appointed to this acting position for 2022.

Thank you for your support and co-operation throughout the term in our management of pandemic restrictions. With the emergence of positive cases late last week and over the weekend, the restrictions remain in place and an important factor in our compliance is the wearing of masks. We have several students with approved exemptions, but I am concerned by the number of students in the Middle and Senior schools today who are presenting as if the wearing of masks is optional. This is a change of attitude and probably born of weariness but possibly complacency. We have emphasised with the students today the importance of mask wearing.

Please continue your co-operation in ensuring that your son is provided with a fresh, clean mask each day, and that unless he has an approved exemption, to wear it when indoors at school. We have provided masks today but are not able to continue this provision.

We have done very well and there remains a few days until we can all have a break from this routine. I thank you in anticipation of your understanding and support.

Enrolments 2022

As I have mentioned previously, enrolments for 2022 and beyond are very strong. It is important that we are clear on our enrolment data as we have sizeable wait lists forming for Year 7 entry.

A reminder of two aspects of enrolments:
1. Please formally enrol your younger sons. We have reached the stage of our development where wait lists are forming and we have had families coming forward with siblings of whom we are not aware. At the same time each year, all boys’ schools throughout Brisbane, like ATC, facilitate Year 7 enrolments when the boys are in Year 4. Please ensure we are aware of your intention to secure a place for your younger son.
2. A reminder that our enrolment agreement is that we will require a term’s fees payable if we have less than a term’s notice of withdrawal from the College. We very much hope that your son will continue with us in 2022 but the final date of notice is Friday 17 September. Thank you to families who have been in contact with us.

I ask the community to please keep Miller Cullip (Year 8 Campbell) and his family in your thoughts and prayers following the recent passing of his Grandfather. We hope that the passage of time will help heal the pain of his passing. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, may perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace. Amen.

I wish you a happy holiday and look forward to seeing the boys back for Term 4 on Tuesday 5 October.

God bless.
