The Great Outdoors

Next week we see the whole ATC Community heading off into the great outdoors to enjoy days filled with adventure. Our Outdoor Education program promotes positive relationships between students and their peers, and between students and staff while providing students with opportunities for growth.

The program builds personal resilience and develops co-operation and teamwork as well as a positive attitude towards conservation and a sense of stewardship of our natural environment. Importantly it provides opportunities for students to learn and demonstrate leadership but just as importantly, it is a time for students to have fun! Whilst we are away for the week, most of our mid-week rehearsals and sport training is not operating. Please see full details below. Equipment lists for Years 4-9 are available for download via the links below.

The ATC swimming program goes ahead as normal during Camp Week but all sport training is cancelled. Please note that all weekend sport is ON as we have full rounds of cricket, volleyball and water polo. Particularly for the older boys who get back on Friday, attendance and a strong effort in next Saturday’s fixtures is vital.

This weekend will see our triathletes heading to the Triathlon State Titles in Hervey Bay. By the time you are reading this article the boys will have gone through a pre-race course and transition tour and will be set up and ready to go for tomorrow mornings racing. Congratulations to all of our boys for a great preparation for the biggest event of the season. We look forward to hearing how you go!

Co-curricular Music

Rehearsals in Camp Week
There will be no instrumental music rehearsals except for Handbells Years 6 (Bodkin & Treacy), Year 8 and Year 9 at their normal times. There will be no Choral rehearsals except for Year 4 Junior Choir members on Thursday morning at 7.30am in preparation for their upcoming performance at Voices from the Trenches.

Lessons in Camp Week
All regularly scheduled lessons are cancelled, (this is taken into consideration when annual lesson fees are calculated). Some students may be contacted by their teacher if they have a lesson during Camp Week on their non-camp day. These lessons are ‘pre make-up lessons’ for upcoming public holidays or make up lessons from last week. There will be individual piano and voice lessons for some students and they will be notified by their teacher. Mr Bannon’s percussion lessons are cancelled.

Year 4 Choir students have a sectional practice at 7.30am next Thursday 2 March in the Junior Music Classroom.

Junior Band Day
This is being held on Friday 3 March and is a very important day for all students new to our Co-curricular Music program. We have approximately 70 boys joining our Junior Band and all will need their instruments (bought or hired) and their music book Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for their relevant instrument as well as a green display folder, a pencil and eraser. Please ensure all students have everything labelled with their name.

Junior Band Concert Performance
Closing out Junior Band Day is a concert on Friday afternoon at 2.15 pm in the Hall. Please come along to our first concert of the year and bring your cameras as this will be the start of a beautiful friendship between your son and his music. Who knows, they might end up at Carnegie Hall one day and you will remember this special day when it all began!

Chamber Choir is performing our Community Mass being held on Saturday 4 March 5.30 pm in the Chapel. Boys in the chamber choir can wear casual clothes. All are welcome to join us in celebrating the Eucharist.

Activities & Clubs

All activities and clubs including Homework Club, Rainbow Reading, River Canoeing, Fishing, Chess, Art, Gamers, Gardening and Environment are CANCELLED in Camp Week. Please make sure your sons know this and plan school pick up accordingly.
