As Saturday dawned the and game time arrived, the U14 Irish Warriors left it all out on the field in a thrilling contest against a side who we have battled against all year. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to hold on and Ferny Grove/Wilston held on to win by 3 points. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all parents who were involved with the side throughout the year. Thank you to the players who were pushed harder this year and challenged throughout the season to lift their standard and help create a successful culture. The boys met our expectations and challenges, resulting in a grand final berth. Finally, thankyou to Sharni for her efforts as co-coach. Sharni’s passion and knowledge of the game is second to none and I look forward to working with Sharni in the future.
Last night over 600 parents and boys attended the Inaugural ATC Sport Presentation Evening which proved to be a wonderful reflection of what we stand for as a College. This night is designed to recognise the personal excellence achieved by our sportsmen within their respective teams. There were many proud parents and satisfied sportsmen who came onto the stage to receive their awards. Equally deserving are all team members who worked together to return home victorious or at other times be gracious in defeat. Celebrated last night were sports played in Terms 2 and 3 and awards were given for both Most Improved and the Claddagh Award for each team. Congratulations to all award winners and we thank the entire ATC sporting community for coming along and supporting this event. My thanks go to Helen Hicks, Andrea McAvoy and Donna Densley from the ATC Sport Support Group for leading their team of hard working parents to put on a lovely BBQ for all. To the Sport Co-ordinators and coaches, thank you for your continued support of the ATC Sport program. To the many staff who attended last night, particularly at this busy time of the year, your presence is greatly appreciated.
Have a restful break in preparation for a big Term 4.
Mr Shane Koimans, Acting Head Sport and Activities
Athletics Report Week 10
It was a huge finish to the Term 3 Athletics calendar and I thank boys, parents, coaches and staff for their patience and cooperation in seeing us over the line.
The MetWest Regional Track & Field Carnival was conducted across the three days 6 – 8 September 2016. ATC students represented the College in true form. Whilst there were many instances of personal excellence, the achievement of Zac Beachy-Head in taking out the 12 Years 800m final in a Personal Best time of 2.19.52 should be recognised and applauded. Zac will now take up the next challenge of competing in the State Track & Field Carnival next month. Peter Ullman (7th in 100m and 200m and 8th in the Tetrathlon 10 Years), Jem Woolcock (5th in 100m and 7th in 200m 12 Years), Alex Griffiths (9th in Long Jump 12 Years), Josh Lane (9th in High Jump and 10th in Shot Put 13 Years) and Charlie Neumann (4th in Shot Put and 8th in Discus 13 Years) should be acknowledged for their outstanding effort in achieving top ten placings. Well done to all boys.
ATC was fortunate to receive an invitation to attend the Nudgee College Track and Field Meet conducted on Friday 9 September 2016. Despite clashes with other sports and commitments which, quite rightly, were given priority, the College was able to send a solid contingent of 10, 11 and 12 year old boys to the meet. On a wet and dreary night, ATC athletes performed admirably against boys from notable GPS schools. Well done to all who attended and represented the College in such a wonderful manner.
The QCIS Track & Field Championship was conducted at UQ on Tuesday, 13 September 2016. ATC, in partnership with Brigidine College, won the aggregate trophy. My congratulations to all sportsmen and women as well as coaches. This was a great way to finish the season and even though the individual results were not to hand upon newsletter deadline these will be published as soon as possible. My thanks to our Track and Field Co-captains, Zac Beachy-Head and Charlie Neumann who lead our team well and held up the aggregate trophy with pride.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and all the best in their Term 4 sporting pursuits.

Aquathlon & Triathlon Squad Report Week 10
Squad Update & News
As we approach the end of term 3 the squad have got five week solid training under their belts. I must say I have been impressed with the overall application of the athletes and I have seen many individual improvements as the boys fitness has increased over the past five weeks.
Term 3 has been about laying down a strong foundation of fitness for the boys to springboard from into term 4. In term 4 we will build on this fitness and ass in some key skills around transition and gear set up so we are all ready for the Regional Aquathon and Trials on 6th November.
Last week ATC triathletes Tom Lally, Tom Kearney, Tim Geers, Tom Ziebarth, Rob Stringer and Pat Milne attended the Triathlon Queensland Development Program time trail day at Nudgee Senior College. All the boys performed very well and congratulations to Tom Kearney and Tim Geers who achieved the time standards and join Mitch Densley in the Triathlon Queensland Youth Emerging Talent Squad.

Basketball Report Week 10
Junior School Basketball
Last week was the final round of fixtures for our Year 5 and Year 6 school basketball teams, all teams were excited and looking forward to finishing the season on a high. Unfortunately, due to the untimely rain the Year 5 games were cancelled, many sad faces were to be seen but we are looking forward to next year.
Our Year 6 teams travelled to Kedron to take on Padua College. Christian Dean did an awesome job for the 6A team in what was a closely fought game with the final result ATC going down 33-26. Josh Burgess too was outstanding for the 6B team in their 37-23 loss.
As we wrap up the season, a big thank you to our coaches and managers for your time and effort each week, the improvement across all teams has been huge. Special mention must go to John Dean, who not only coached the 6A team but drove the bus to all Year 6 away games, John this was appreciated by both the College and the parents.
Middle School Basketball
Round 4 saw our Middle School boys take on Padua College also with some great results. Our Year 9 team enjoyed a win, 35-9 with Emerson Treasure staring at both ends of the court. After 40 mins of hard fought basketball our Year 8 team walked off the court with a draw, 34-34, well done to Lochlan Rutch for his outstanding game. Cricket Report Week 10
Parents of boys identified to play Brisbane North fixtures during Term 4 2016 should have completed registration via the playcricket website by now. Anyone yet to complete this task should do so immediately. No registration = no play. Boys identified to undertake the Development Program are not required to register via the playcricket website. Parents should contact me as soon as possible if they are unsure of which pathway their son will be following.
Term 4 2016 teams will be named during the school holiday period once all registrations have been received. Term 4 cricket is open to all boys, regardless of experience or ability, and every boy who wishes to play cricket will be placed in a team. This is an opportunity for boys to play with their mates in a participation model within a competitive environment. It is a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all.
Cricket Coaching Clinics will be held on campus exclusively for 2016 and 2017 ATC students 19-22 September 2016 inclusive and 26-29 September 2016 inclusive to assist players prepare for the season. These Clinics will set the foundation for play in the Term 4 season and concentrate on building individual and team skills whilst having fun and enjoying the game. Bookings must be made for boys to attend either or both Clinics as numbers are limited (places for some age groups remain available). Every effort will be made to place boys with potential teammates to implement protocols and strategies. The fourteen hours of coaching and practice at one of these Clinics is greater than the entire time available for team training sessions during Term 4 and attendance is worth considering if you are able (there is a financial and time commitment necessary and thus will not suit everyone). Bookings and enquiries should be directed to
