Service Program Week 7

Students have been engaging in a range of Service activities including such diverse areas as robotics mentoring, fundraising and gardening!

Liam, Rinehart, Tom and Josh raised funds a few weeks ago by selling drinks at lunchtime. They then used the proceeds to purchase toiletry products to give to some homeless people in South Brisbane. Today they were able to present Roby Curtis (founder of Blind Eye Ministry) with $50 as well as shampoo, conditioner and 10 toiletry packs containing soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste. This demonstrates wonderful leadership, generosity and initiative by our Year 7 boys.

Thank you to the Middle School Robotics club for running sessions for Junior School students this term with the intention of sharing their knowledge of, and passion for robotics. The year 4 and 5 boys have completed a number of robotics challenges under the guidance of the middle school boys including parking a robot and racing robots. The future is looking bright for Robotics at ATC with the junior boys learning quickly and showing a keen interest in developing their skills further.

Jackson M (Year 5) helped an elderly lady who is supported by the Community with her gardening requirements. Cath is unable to complete her own gardening and with Jackson’s assistance will help Cath to be able to stay in her own unit, rather than moving to a nursing home.

Dylan G, Nick C and Lachlan S did some great community work last weekend helping Glenleighden school with their gardening project. The boys ferried over 100 wheelbarrows of dirt to clear the gardening area of nut grass to enable the Glenleighden children to start planting herbs and vegetables.
