Performing Arts News Week 3 Term 3

There’s plenty of performances to keep your toes tapping this week including the Queensland Youth Orchestra’s concert on 7 August, our traditional music and dance for NAIDOC day Friday 29 July and the rehearsals for QCMF. Here’s all the details…


Chamber Concert
This Thursday, 28 July 6.30 pm in the NJ Hall – This event has been CANCELLED.

QYO Concert 3 August – Old Museum
If you would like to see some REALLY fabulous music being performed and to encourage our instrumental students to pursue music further – come along to the Old Museum on Gregory Terrace for the Mannheim Youth Orchestra concert on Wednesday night 7 August. All details are on the QYO website – Performances will be Piano Concerto as well as Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 6 Pathetique. Go to the QYO website for more details.

Assembly Performances & rehearsals
No assembly performance this Friday as it is NAIDOC mass.
Wind Ensemble rehearsal this Friday will be slightly different – We will be taking sectionsal rehearsals in various rooms to prepare for QCMF. 7am arrival – Sharp
Woodwind – Speech and Drama Room
Percussion – Percussion Room
Brass (all lower and upper) Music Office Back Ensemble Room

Event memos will be sent home to all ensembles this week with ALL information you need to know about our involvement in this huge festival. We have 21 Ensembles attending this year and we are currently planning the bus schedules and timing. Most of our ensembles are involved on Friday 12 August during the day – some ensembles are performing on Thursday evening 11 August and Saturday 13 August. PLEASE email Mrs Scalia if you know you will not be able to attend on any of these days as it is the weekend of the EKKA holiday. Full details are now available on the QCMF website

Formal Concert
6pm for foyer entertainment and drinks and nibbles
6.30 pm concert begins.
We anticipate the concert to be concluded by 8.45 pm

Cultural Support Group Meeting
A big thank you to the Cultural Support Committee for helping with our Ensemble Room working bee on Wednesday. WE have now got labels; tags; identification and actual space to see and work in that big room. Well done.
Our next Cultural Support meeting will be just after the QCMF event. If you would like to be involved with all things cultural, please email Mrs Scalia on
We will be sending out Volunteer sign up notices in the next two weeks – for our Jazz by the River event on October 15th 2016. WE will need help on the Bar; Registration Desk; Food and cake stalls; Auction and Raffles and setup and pack down for this huge event. More information will follow asap.

Jazz by the River
STOP PRESS – The bookings for Jazz by the River event will be available from 14 August. There will be Family tickets; Individual adult and child tickets as well as Concession tickets available. Our Headline act is all booked and the bands and ensembles performing are being finalised. Please mark Saturday 15th October in your diaries for our Jazz by the River Afternoon. Art work is being completed and will be available to view very soon – and to BID on for our Art Masterpiece Auction.

Monday 1 August – Rehearsal is ON, Ms McGeever is away, but Mr Goopy is taking this.
QCMF – Arrival at Villanova for All handbell students is 7 am sharp on Saturday 13 August.

All rehearsals are in full swing and students with morning rehearsals are expected to be ready to begin by 7 am. Please arrive just before to set up your instruments.
Reminder that Big Band rehearsal is now on Wednesday afternoons for Term 3.
