On the Tarmac for Term Two Takeoff

A warm welcome to Term Two. Very pleasingly, we regather to a ‘COVID normal’ environment where most activities can resume after a bumpy conclusion to Term 1 and the subsequent uncertainty. This is wonderful news for Queensland, our families and our community.

I was pleased that we were able to pivot quickly to online learning using the TEAMs application and SEQTA. Whilst I hope that won’t be necessary again, it was a useful exercise after almost a year of not needing to do so. I thank our staff, students and parents and caregivers for your support through the short term lock down. We will continue to be communicative through this time and work in partnership with you.

Thank you to our parents and caregivers for your engagement with our Feedback Meetings. It would be my hope that the feedback shared has assisted in developing some strategies for learning for the term ahead. Please feel welcome to remain in contact with our Teaching Staff as Term Two gets underway. This is a relatively brief term of 9 weeks punctuated with Public Holidays, so getting routine underway is very important. I would particularly emphasise this reality for our Year 11 and 12 students to move into focused work as quickly as possible.

Staff News

Congratulations to Mrs Kelli Sutherland (Paton) and Mr Jared D’Roza and their partners who celebrated their weddings over the holidays. In addition, we wish Mr Sam Brown all the best for his upcoming nuptials this Saturday. On behalf of the ATC community, I wish our newly married couples a future filled with happiness and love.

Mrs Brijette Brooks commences her position as Acting Head of Co-curricular Music Performance while Mr Jono Bolt is on long service leave. I also extend a warm welcome to a number of new staff members joining the College this term. Ms Samantha Davids joins the HPE Department, Ms Saskia Testa will cover Mrs Kate Tyson’s music classes while she is on maternity leave and Mr Michael Wright who joins the Sport Department as Sport Officer.

We farewell Mr Justin Feuerriegel, Year 5 Treacy class teacher, this Friday and thank him for his positive contribution to the learning and pastoral care in Year 5. We extend a warm welcome to Ms Hannah Mort who will replace Mr Feuerriegel. We also farewell Mr Rob Smith, Classroom School Officer, as he has recently accepted a teaching position at another school. We wish Rob all the best in his new role. Mr Harry Walker commences tomorrow as a new Classroom School Officer.

Year 12 Formal

We wish our Year 12 students all the very best for a wonderful time this Friday evening at their Formal. This is a significant signpost event in their lives and we hope that they and their partners enjoy themselves. Thank you to parents and caregivers for your support in ensuring that all College behaviour expectations are upheld. We are confident that our young men will be fine hosts to their partners and a good evening will be had by all.

EREA Football Tournament

Congratulations to our Football players who participated in the EREA Football Tournament held at Nudgee College last week. All players acquitted themselves well and we congratulate the mighty Year 5 Team on their victory in the Final. Thank you to all players, parents, caregivers and coaching staff for for their involvement at this and other competitions, clinics and trials held over the break.

Swimming Nationals

Congratulations to the ten swimmers who represented Ambrose Treacy Swimming Club at the Australian Swimming Age Championships during the Easter holidays. ATC students Thomas Stegeman and Rafael Ritch de Llera performed strongly under the pressure of the national event. Current ATC student Xavier Cuolahan (100 & 200 breaststroke) and past ATC student Daniel Woodrow (100 freestyle) both made finals and impressed with their top ten placings. Congratulations to Andre Venter and Thomas Stegeman who were selected in the Queensland School Sport Swimming Team Age 10-12.

I look forward to seeing students on campus Tuesday 20 April to begin the new term.

God bless
