Week 3 Term 2 Performing Arts News

We welcome Mr Bolt back to ATC after some time at home looking after new baby Ella and her big brother Harrison. Our heartfelt congratulations to Jono and Cass on the safe arrival of little Ella (pictured above). Ms Jo Lagerlow, Mr Darren Skaar and Miss Brijette Tubb did a fantastic job looking after the “BOLT” students in his absence.

Anzac Liturgy

Well done to our Brass Ensemble for their performance at our Liturgy on Friday. It was a solemn tribute to our fallen ANZACS and the Last Post was perfectly executed by Mr Darren Skaar. Thanks also to our Choir and to Mrs MacGuinness for their performances of Abide With Me and the National Anthem.

Handbells Rehearsals on Public Holiday

Monday 2nd May
Junior School practice – 3pm set up; practice 3.15pm to 4.15pm
Middle School practice – 4.15pm to 5.15pm; pack up 5.15pm to 5.30pm

Choir Important Dates

On Thursday 25 May the Queensland Music Awards will be held and the Junior Choir will have a performance at Genesis Christian College – more information to follow. On Monday 30 May Middle School Singers will attend the Qld Youth Music Awards at St Peter’s College Indooroopilly – More information to follow.


Mr Shane Hannan is away this week – in his place Mr Nick Laganin will take the Lower Brass Students. (Monday students will be on Friday this week) Please email Mrs Scalia if you are unsure of when your lesson time will be.

Rehearsal Schedule

Please see the Rehearsal tab in the Performing Arts section of Latest News. If you are unable to attend rehearsal, please advise the conductor and Mrs Scalia via email.

Touring Band Rehearsal : This Friday we will finish at 4.15pm due to our early start for Symphonic Winds rehearsal.

Concert Band: Miss Tubb is looking for a 100% roll up on Thursday morning as there is new music to work on and Concert Band members have been a bit sleepy and turning up late to rehearsal. Please email if you are unable to attend.

Wind Ensemble will NOT have a rehearsal this week due to It being a Monday timetable.

Assembly performance

This week is Symphonic Winds on Assembly on Friday. Performing King Across the Water and Jump Start. (rehearsal will be prior to performance and from 7 am)


Congratulations to the Junior School students who received Instrumental Music awards on Tuesday. All boys showed extra enthusiasm and diligence during lessons, rehearsals and at home. Well done.

Sydney Music Tour

Information regarding clothing and equipment will be available via email and also on this “Latest News” Performing Arts blog at the end of next week. The boys performing in the Sydney Touring Bands – Winds and Big Band – will need a pair of long grey trousers and the ATC zip up sports jacket for the tour. Wind instruments will need extra reeds and a cleaning cloth and these are also available at The School Locker.

Information evening

Sydney Tour families are requested to attend the parent information evening which is now being held on Thursday 26 May at 6.30 in the Chapel of St. Joseph Edmund Rice Building.

Big Band Performance at Jazz Club

On Saturday 21 May our Big Band is performing at the Brisbane Jazz Club (Kangaroo Point) as part of the Brisbane Big Band Festival.
