Our head coach Mr Remo Buess has returned in 2016 to support coaches in continuing to offer a high quality football program at ATC. Pre-season includes an emphasis on football specific conditioning and massed practise of fundamental skills in preparation for the school soccer season in Term 2. Boys will also have the opportunity to play Futsal for the College in the SE QLD Futsal Championships during the football pre-season.
The 2016 ATC Football season launched with a flurry of energy and excitement on Friday afternoon against traditional GPS powerhouses Nudgee College.
Fixtures— April to June Although not all results went our way, the willingness of boys to try and keep the football, whilst looking to involve team mates through passing and possession was a highlight. When we had the ball, most sides looked extremely dangerous. A key to our further improvement is to transition quickly once possession is lost, and to try and make the space that the opposition have to work in, as compressed as possible.
The season continues for some boys over the Easter holidays as the College participates in a national EREA tournament involving Year 12 and Year 10 teams throughout the country. Despite being younger than all our competitors we are optimistic about achieving some good results and continuing to develop as a team. A high quality tournament is anticipated in the 1st week of the holidays. We encourage all students to offer to assist with the canteen facilities as a means of accruing some Service Hours and giving back to our community. Please see Mr Warr if you are interested.
Training and trials
Training and trials for all boys (including Year 4) commences on the 1st day of Term 2.
Year 5 and 6 will train in the morning with Year 4 and the Middle School from 3:15pm to 4:30 in the afternoon. Year 4 boys will be escorted from their classrooms over to Jack Bowers Oval. Year 4 boys simply need to turn up, regardless if they have previously expressed an interest in playing. ATC Football attire, or sports uniform, is suffice. Shin pads are recommended.
Middle School boys will train in the morning on Wednesdays with Year 5 and 6 in the afternoon. Friday morning is an optional session for all Year 5 to 9 boys with Year 4 students participating in internal, small sided matches from 2:15pm to 3:30pm in the afternoon.
All training sessions will continue to be a combination of skills acquisition training, with some afternoon sessions also incorporating team tactical awareness.
