Sport Report Week 3 Term 2

From Dave Capra, Head of Sport and Activities

For the first time this weekend, every single football team in the College will run onto the park on either Saturday or Sunday. We will also see a large number of runners heading to the QLD All Schools Cross Country Championships at Kedron SHS on Saturday afternoon.

To get such a large number of students into teams, onto fields and playing the sports they love takes a huge amount of work and I would like to thanks the ATC Sport Department, specifically, Mr Luke Donatini, Mrs Anne-Marie Champion, Mrs Fiona Kearney and Mr Kieran Moffatt for the hard work they have put into getting this season up and running. I would also like to thank Mr Matt Warr, Mr David Gardiner and Mr Remo Buess for the work they have put into the Football – they don’t actually sit in our Sport Office but contribute huge amounts of energy and passion into our sporting program. You will also see a huge number of staff and teachers listed as coaches in the weekend draw and no doubt you will bump into them on the sidelines or trackside over the weekend. I would also like to thank these dedicated people in advance for what promises to be a fantastic season ahead for our boys!

Teams were named for rugby and football today for the weekend. As always there will be equal amounts of elation and disappointment. Over the next 2-3 weeks we would seek to finalise these teams and to reduce movement between teams unless injury or illness necessitates us doing so. Our thanks for your support while we finalise these teams.

You might have noticed that we have a slightly different set up for home games for Rugby and Football. With support from the ATC P & F we have purchased 13 custom ATC tents which we are making full use of. We have allocated 4-5 tents to players and first aid the rest will be spread around the grounds for spectators. The middle area between the two fields and the two cricket pitches are designated as player and official areas only. This is to allow some space for coaches and managers to look after the boys during the games. Our thanks for your support in ensuring that all spectators remain outside of the player and official area.

Study Centre

Under the leadership of our Dean of Learning, Kath Little, our Middle School teaching and support staff run a Study Centre for Middle School students on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in Westcourt from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. The Wednesday session has been recently added to give boys who play rugby and AFL the chance to attend. Attendance has been limited at this session – whilst this is definitely not compulsory, we just wanted to remind parents and boys that it is on and available for our boys. We will review the Wednesday sessions at the end of May and will determine whether or not we will continue to run them.

Best of luck to everyone for a great weekend of sport! Warriors go Brach!
