Whilst most of our students have enjoyed the first week of holidays, most of our Year 10 students have been involved in a week of work experience. Through the hard work of Ms Melissa Peacock we have gained the support of numerous businesses to provide an enriching opportunity for the Year 10 students. One example was my visit today to Josh Wharmby at CSIRO at Pullenvale. Josh has been using a new software program to design a frame for two underground radars. This will then be 3-D printed and sent to the software experts to then survey the underground environment in mines to reduce health issues of workers being in underground mining. I look forward to hearing many more exciting learnings from our Year 10s in the first week of next term.
A group of students are currently touring and savouring the cultural delights of Japan. The boys accompanied by Mr Ramsey, Mr Bannon and Mrs Oghanna have been to the famous waterside entertainment area of Tempozan and marvelled at the huge Aquarium. Yesterday they had a speedy trip on the bullet train to Hiroshima where they experienced an emotional visit to the Peace Museum. The day ended on a lighter note with a visit to the Eigamura Movie Village where they witnessed live samuri fighting and displays! Follow the ATC Japan Cultural Tour facebook page for photos and daily updates. Another lucky group of students will hit the slopes of NZ from 2 July. We wish them the good fortune of plenty of snow! From the weather reports this week there has been consistent falls and grooming taking place on the slopes of Mt. Hutt. Safe travels to all.
