Connecting with our Community Through Service

Staff Blogger Andrew McCrohon
Service Program Coordinator

Service is one of the College’s three pillars and we believe that serving others is our way to connect boys with the story of Jesus and our Catholic values. It gives them opportunities to express their faith through action, offering support, assistance and friendship to those in need.

Every student in Years 4 to 12 is asked to complete a minimum number of Service hours throughout the year. Service is time spent volunteering to assist others without any monetary gain. There will be organised service initiatives at the College, throughout the year, for all students to engage in however, I encourage all boys to adopt an external initiative and support a local charity, sporting club, fundraiser or community group.

Maybe a sporting club or local community group could do with an extra set of hands, or maybe there’s a cause that is close to their heart that you would like to support like The Salvation Army, Emmanuel Mission, Beanies for Brain Cancer or Boomerang Bag. No matter whether you have a passion for the environment, medical research, helping the disadvantaged, the homeless or the lonely. You might just want to be a friendly face to a neighbour. This is all part of being a sign of faith in our community.

The Service Journal has further information detailing potential activities that your son may like to get involved with.

We enjoy sharing our photos with the wider community on our Facebook page each week. We encourage parents to email us with good news stories of your son completing his Service hours. Send us photos and details to as we’d love to share the Stories of ATC with the wider community. I look forward to seeing all the wonderful things that our students do and the innovative and kind ways that they work to help others.

I hope your sons engage with another year of serving those less fortunate.
