Coming Up Week One

Spring has sprung and hopefully everyone has relaxed during their well-earned break. Term Four is upon us and while our Year 12 students gear up for their important ATAR External Exams, the rest of the student body has an action-packed term ahead of them.

Reports are not generated for Term Three but early in Term Four, results and feedback for all assessment tasks will be available on SEQTA.

Traffic safety

Neighbours have reported unacceptable parking at drop off time in Twigg Street, plus dangerous speeding around the streets near the College. For the safety of our community, plus to promote ATC as a good neighbour in our local community, can I remind all families of the need to adhere to all traffic rules. To assist in this area can I add two reminders to our list. There has been an increase in students travelling on scooters and they may require a reminder of safe and appropriate road rules. Plus, the bottom carpark nearest Twigg Street should only be used by staff. Drop and Go plus Pick up should be completed in the pull in bay at the front of the College and not in the carpark. These actions will ensure the safety of all the students.

Update of Details

Parents have full access to update their contact details and student medical details in Parent Lounge. Your contact details are used in the case of emergency and for all email communication with families so it is imperative that these details are kept up to date so that important information can be passed onto parents in a timely manner. Over the holiday period, we encourage you to log in to your Parent Lounge account and check your personal details and your son’s medical details which includes permission to administer paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Health and Physical Education

Year 5
The Physical Education program for Year 5 in Term 4 is swimming. The boys will be participating in 8 swimming lessons starting in Week 1 of Term 4. The boys are required to wear their PE uniform to school as normal and will have time at the start and end of each lesson to change in and out of their swimming gear. As the pool is under a shade structure, there is NO requirement for sun shirts to be worn and the boys may wear any swimwear that they feel comfortable swimming in. Both shorts or swim training togs are appropriate for this unit and swimming goggles are an optional item. ATC swimming togs may be worn but are not required. The unit will focus on swimming technique in freestyle and then move to learning lifesaving survival strokes as we progress through the term. We encourage the boys to take responsibility for packing swimming gear on a Wednesday morning and boys who are unable to swim for any reason will be asked to complete written work relating to the swimming topic of the day. If you have any questions or concerns relating to this unit, then please contact Mr Paul Jones, Year 5 HPE Teacher.

Year 9
Year 9 Students ar studying Lifesaving and First Aid in HPE in Term 4. Therefore, students will be required to bring their swimming gear in a drawstring bag to school for practical HPE lessons. Teachers will notify their classes if there are any changes to practical days from the Term 3 schedule. Swimming attire can be either boardshorts or speedos. Students do not need a rash shirt. Given that students will be wearing their swimmers for HPE in Term 4, they will therefore be required to wear their ATC formal uniform to school every day in Term 4 – PE uniforms are NOT to be worn to school. We feel that this will assist students with the transition to Year 10.

Year 4 Milk Bottle Regatta

One of the highlights for the boys next term will be the annual “Year 4 Milk Bottle Raft Regatta.”  This will be held on Thursday 25 November, the last week of Term 4. Students will work in teams to construct rafts out of plastic milk bottles and race on them in the Pool. More details will be provided early next term. To prepare for this we ask that you and your son begin to collect plastic milk bottles  (1, 2 and 3L), wash them and store them in garbage bags at home.  The bottles are to be brought to school in the week beginning Monday 22 November so construction can begin in preparation for the Regatta. On average, each student should bring in 15 milk bottles and two rolls of packing tape.

Term 4 Signum Fidei Recipients

We will recognise and celebrate students’ contributions to the three College Touchstones of Service, Learning and Leadership at the Term 4 Signum Fidei breakfasts. We look forward to welcoming the award recipients and their families to the College. A reminder invitation has been sent to families. See you on Wednesday 6 October for Junior and Senior School awards and Thursday 7 October for the Middle School awards.

Year 12 Gift to the College

A message from Year 12 P&F Parent Liaison, Ms Siobhan Knott. As is tradition in many schools, the Year 12 Seniors will present a gift to the College as symbol of their gratitude and for other students to benefit from into the future. This year, the Parents and Friends, in consultation with the Year 12 students, have decided the Senior gift will be a Water- Cooling system to be placed at the Senior School. There will be a plaque mounted above the system in recognition. We are grateful for any donations that the 2021 Senior families may be able to contribute towards the Water-Cooling system with estimated cost of approximately $5,600. This is a fitting gift and one that students will benefit from in years to come. Please login to your Parent Lounge account and proceed to the “Make a Payment” option in the Events tab. Your Parent Lounge username is your parent code. If you have queries, please contact the P&F Parent Liaison, Siobhan.

Year 8 Retreat

The Year 8 COURAGE Retreat will be held on Thursday 14 October Sherwood Australian Rules Football Club, Chelmer. Students will be challenged to consider their roles in providing a positive voice to their own, and others’ lives. This will allow all in our community to be filled with self-worth, belief and responsible actions. Boys will reflect on their own journeys and the impact they have on others. The day will be facilitated by ATC staff. the retreat will challenge students to be examples of Signum Fidei and to live lives which reflect their values and beliefs. It is a compulsory school day. STUDENTS should being a Hat, Sunscreen, Water Bottle, Pen, light morning tea (BBQ lunch will be provided), Donation Item and wear appropriate free clothes and comfortable closed in shoes. The Retreat will be coordinated by the Dean of Faith & Mission, Head of Year 8, and Year 8 Class Teachers. There will also be a variety of other presenters throughout the day. The boys will commence the day with home room. Boys will walk to the venue at approximately 8:45am following roll marking and return for dismissal from school at 3:00pm. All Year 8 boys are asked to bring a ‘donation item’ to the event. In the lead up to Christmas, it is proposed that this would be a children’s toy which can be donated to a charitable cause. This can be a toy up to the value of $25. We encourage our boys to raise the funds to purchase this by completing extra chores or deeds around the family home.

Year 8 Mass

An important expression of a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition is the celebration of Mass as a means to bring the community together, listen to scripture, give thanks and be united in Holy Communion as the heart of Catholic faith and life. The Year 8 Mass will be celebrated on Friday 8 October in the Chapel of St Joseph at 8:30am. In 2021, this will be a student only event. Students are expected to wear their full day uniform, and meet their homeroom teacher in the Chapel at 8:25am to mark the roll prior to the commencement of Mass.
