Coming Up in Week 2

Happy faces around the Junior School.

A sincere welcome to all families to the 2017 school year. It has been a fantastic week (including Australia Day to catch our breath). I have loved seeing the excitement on the faces of all the boys as they returned from a long holiday.

The new staff were just as excited and keen to get going. Fortunately, they had the cool heads of our continuing staff to support them. The energy and buzz around the College has been fantastic, from the Open Classrooms on Monday and the first lessons in the classrooms to the catching up of friends in the playground.

Parent Information Evenings
Middle & Senior School – Wednesday 1 February 6.30pm
Junior School – Thursday 2 February 6.30pm
Ambrose Treacy College believes that our staff’s role is to support parents in educating their son. The connection between staff and parents is an important factor in the success of the boys at school. Next week we invite all parents to come in and further develop that relationship with the teachers. The sessions will begin at 18.30 in the NJ Hall for a short introduction and information sharing. On Wednesday parents of Years 7-10 will then meet with their Head of Year to receive specific information for that year level, followed by some time to meet with your son’s homeroom teacher. The Year 4, 5 and 6 parents on Thursday will follow the session in the Hall with time with their Homeroom teacher receiving specific information about your son and his class. I encourage all parents to take this opportunity to receive specific information and to strengthen the relationship with key staff.

After School Care
Camp Australia operates the After School Care program each afternoon from 3.00-6.00pm. The ‘Ambrose Treacy College Kids Club’ aims to provide quality care and recreational activities in a safe and caring environment. This service may be accessed on a regular or semi-regular basis. It is suggested that all parents enroll their sons in the after school care program so that details are available to cover any emergency need. Registration is available online.

Homework Club
Homework/Study Club will begin on Tuesday 31 January – Week 2 Term 1. Homework club is held each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon 3.15pm – 4.30pm and is a FREE service offered to Middle and Senior School students. It is held in the Westcourt iCentre and its purpose is to provide students with a quiet, supervised environment to do their homework or study. If the boys have specific questions in regards to homework they can ask the supervisors for help. This is not a tutoring service. If you have any questions please email

College Calendars
The College Calendar has arrived and will be distributed to the youngest child in the family by Homeroom Teachers on Monday.

Parent Lounge
Please find attached instructions for new parents to log into the Parent Lounge, emailed last Friday. Please refer to the 2017 SEQTA engage Parent User Guide under the “Documents” tab in the Parent Lounge. A Parent IT Information evening will be held on Thursday 23 February 2017.

Acceptable Use Technology Form – Years 4 & 7 only plus New Families
Please return the signed ATC Acceptable Technology Use Policy if you have not already done so to your sons homeroom teacher.

Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 8:20am from Paddy’s Place only all year. If your son is new to the school he will not receive his ID card for a few weeks, so all items will need to be ordered online via Flexischools. Unfortunately we cannot serve breakfast to students until they have their ID card.

All Morning Tea and Lunch orders are to be ordered ONLINE via Flexischools. The Student ID Card is for breakfast, snacks and treats only. The full menu is online and we encourage parents to pre-order as much as possible to reduce queues at the tuckshop. The cut-off time for online ordering is 8:30am daily.

Please go to Flexischools to set up an account. Select ‘REGISTER’ and follow the prompt to set up an ONLINE ACCOUNT making sure you enter your son’s Student ID Card number. If your son does not have a Student ID Card, please select “I do want to link a card to the system” and continue ordering online. If you have already set up online ordering on Flexischools, go to ‘My Student’, find your son and click on ‘SET UP CARD NUMBER’ and follow the prompts. Please set up an AUTO TOP-UP. Years 4 to 6 will have their orders delivered to the classroom at both breaks and Years 7 – 10 will collect their orders from the tuckshops during break times.

Students are expected to wear their day uniform (including College hat) and teachers will inform students on which day they are to wear their sports uniform. The College is a sun smart school. Students are required to wear a College Hat any time they are in direct sunlight. Due to unavailability of stock, if you do not have a College Hat, your son is required to wear a broad brimmed hat until his hat arrives. Students are not required to wear their school tie in Term 1, with the exception of our ATC Opening Mass on Tuesday 7 February 2017.

Hair should be neatly cut, combed and groomed. Extremes of hairstyles are to be avoided, eg undercuts, tracks or lines, tinted or coloured hair, a minimum of gauge three blade.

ATConnect Facelift
You have probably noticed we are releasing our online newsletter _ATC_onnect in the form of a daily blog. This will hopefully give our community an easier way to stay up to date with all the current happenings at the College. We will send a daily link to the blog via the College App and post a link on our Facebook page. On a weekly basis we will release the following posts, Monday – From the Principal, Tuesday – Learning, Wednesday – Formation and Service, Thursday – Co-Curricular Activities, Friday – Coming Up. *Weekends*- Week in Review and P&F/Community News.

The reality will be that ATConnect will still look the same but will be constantly updating as the daily post is released. We hope you enjoy the new format of the newsletter.
