Coming Up Next Week

Our first week of on campus learning has been very positive. I would score it an 8 out of 10. Attendance has been very high and engagement in lessons has been excellent. It has been pleasing to hear, particularly from our new staff, how quickly the boys have settled into routine and classwork.

Next week is fairly clear on our calendar due to the postponement of events with the Government restrictions in place. The Year 4 Retreat scheduled for Friday 18 February will go ahead as it is to be held on campus. The focus across Week 4 will be to embed the routines and processes necessary for a successful Term One.

Assessment Schedules for Semester One for each year level have been released on the College app and available on SEQTA. This should be displayed prominently to help students in their planning across the term. Organisation and forward planning are key criteria for success.

We continue to promote safe procedures for the health of all. The current Queensland Government guidelines are that students unless eating and drinking or socially distanced by 1.5 m are to be wearing masks outdoors. When students are playing physical games where they are exerting themselves such as touch football or basketball, removing the mask is permissible. I ask that parents and caregiver support the staff in consolidating the message that masks are required by students who do not have an exemption and should be carried at all times and used correctly when needed to.

One significant change we have made to ensure continuity of learning is asking all Year 4 to 6 students to take their laptops home each night. We appreciate this promotes a higher risk of damage to the laptops. With this in mind, the College has ordered new laptop carry bags for all Junior School students. Hopefully these will arrive in the next fortnight for distribution to the junior boys.

Last week was the first ATC P&F meeting for 2022. It was pleasing to see so many parents online for the meeting, to share information, thoughts and questions. The meetings are generally held the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm. Meeting dates are on the College App. More P&F News is below in my blog.

Each student in Years 7 to 12 have been allocated a locker. Every student also has been provided with an ATC lock. I appreciate the difficulties some boys have with combinations and such, but it is really important to protect their property that every student has a lock on his lockers. On occasions we have had intruders who have gone thru lockers at night. Please check with your son that he has his lock on his locker, and if he has lost it then buy a new lock.

Absence from School

Normal absentee processes need to be followed please. If a student is going to be late or absent for any reason parents and caregivers are required to inform us via the College App Absentee tile, or by email or telephone 0738780521 before 9.00am on the morning of the absence.

I hope you are looking forward to another great week at ATC. I am!

Opening Mass and Senior Commissioning

The 2022 Opening Mass and Senior Commissioning has been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday 9 March. Year 12 parents and students are urged to refer to the letter shared on the ATC App from Mr Warr for further details.

Lessons and rehearsals are now back in full swing! Students are reminded to continue to check the College App for updates and ensure you are subscribed to the relevant Culture ‘tags’.

This week we visited the Junior School classrooms for a brief instrument demonstration and to collect names of students who are interested in joining our Junior Band program. If you have not yet received any correspondence from us and you would like your son to learn an instrument at ATC, we would love to hear from you. CLICK HERE to contact us.

For all new students interested in joining a choir, rehearsals are open to all students with no audition required. ATC Senior Singers (years 7-12) rehearse on Wednesday mornings from 7am and Junior Choir (years 4-6) rehearse on Thursday mornings from 7am. Both sessions are in the College Chapel. We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to those who have registered into a busy term ahead for our Clubs program.  A reminder that all clubs begin week beginning Monday 14 February.  Please check the information letters and Clubs timetable for days, times and location of your registered clubs.

It was sensational to see the high number of registrations received for Athletic Development, Year 4 Legends Basketball and Cricket as well as the Term 2 sports, Rugby and Football. Other Term 2 sport registrations will take place I’m 2 weeks’ time and we’ll notify everyone when they are open via the app.

Our speed, ability and endurance session on Thursday morning had a record 75 participants in attendance from Year 4-12. Our goal is to crack 100 next week so please register for these sessions on Parent Lounge (titled Athletic Development) and as a reminder, these take place on Monday and Thursday mornings. All information is on the app under Athletic Development.

Our Tuckshop team has had an amazing first week, creating, cooking and serving some delicious, homemade, healthy lunches. To finish off a super week, they are doing ‘Friday Burger Day’ and offering a range of burgers at Second break. If last year’s reaction to Burger Day is anything to go by, they must be delicious! Choose from a cheeseburger, bacon and cheeseburger, a Classic, the Works or a Vege burger. Gluten free options are also available. The grill will be fired up every Friday this term so don’t forget to top up your son’s ATC shop account (and ensure the funds have been transferred from your account to the student account) so that he can buy a burger, or one of the other delicious meals on the Term One menu which is available to download via the link below.

This includes two specials each day, as well our regular daily favourites. There will also be a selection of cold sandwiches, wraps, rolls, fruit, sushi and salads. The Bakehouse serves breakfast each day from 7:30am. Paddy’s Place and The Bakehouse are self-service tuckshops and cashless. As such, students need to set up an ATC Shop account to pay for any purchases.

ATC Shop

Purchases can only be made if a student has sufficient credit on their ATC Shop account and has their student card at the time of purchase. Details about how to set up a credit card and automatic top-up can be viewed in the video below. There is also the option of paying by credit or debit card at both tuckshops. The tuckshop team look forward to welcoming back students from Monday 7 February.
