Coming Up Looking to Term 4

On Friday last week, more than 400 boys gathered in the hall during their lunchtime and volunteered to give up their time in support of children around the world that are forced to live in asylum seeking detention centres. Detention4Detention is an initiative of the ERA for Change network – a group of Edmund Rice Schools around Australia making boys aware and advocates of the plight of many poor and marginalised members of our community.

It is not about politics or taking sides, but moreover a look at the humanity and dignity being shown to people; one of the Catholic Social teachings preached by Pope Francis. The mantra of ‘One child is too many’ was a focus of our silent protest. A sincere thanks to all the boys and staff that engaged with such a worthy cause.

Come and Try Handbells Evening

A large crowd of inquisitive students and their parents joined Mrs McGeever for “Come and Try Handbells” night last week. The hall was ringing with melody as boys and mums and dads tried out the unusual instruments. For many it was the first time they had seen the handbells and all were very keen to see how they worked. Afterwards the crowd enjoyed pizza and it was a great opportunity for some ATC friend-raising. Thank you to Barb McGeever for facilitating the evening.

ATC Cook Off

The Junior School and some brave parents came together in the hall on Tuesday for the Cook Off Grand Final. My congratulations to the finalists who successfully produced their breakfast dish on stage and under time pressure. I congratulate the 2016 Cook Off Grand Final winner, Daniel Mulloni and his Eggs Benedict dish. The judges were impressed with the finalists cooking skills as well their presentation and professionalism. Congratulations to 2nd place winner Sam and equal 3rd place winners Matthew & Rob. Thanks also to our 4 guest judges for assisting at this event and giving encouragement and advice to our young chefs. Our appreciation goes to Sally Wilson food blogger, Adi Shabtay owner of Shouk Café Paddington, Alastair from Simons Gourmet Gallery and our Adopt a Cop Constable Will Pattie.

We have exceeded all expectations and we are truly grateful to our generous community. There is still time to support this worthy cause so please head to the website to make a donation. Please email Dave Sullivan for further information.
