Sound the horns, the end of term is around the corner. There’s more than a few key points below to ensure you are up-to-date with all that’s happening in Week 10.
Exam schedules are available on the College App and students will have exams right up until Friday 17 September. This has been planned so we maximise the learning time prior to the exam period.

Lost uniform items to be collected from Student Reception before end of Term. We have a large amount of lost property in Senior School Reception and Main College Reception. Please ask your sons to check for any missing items by THURSDAY 16 SEPTEMBER. Any remaining items at the end of term will be disposed of over the holidays. We strongly advise caregivers and students to carefully label all items with your son’s name.
Service hours need to be logged before the end of next week.
COVID restrictions have had a significant impact on the College’s Music program but I was delighted to see the ensembles and bands perform at a Formal Concert Series this week. Under set seating arrangements and with limited numbers, there were three evenings of small scale performances in the NJ Hall for the Junior Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, ATC Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, Big Band and ATC Jazz Orchestra. Congratulations to all the young men who performed this week and thanks to the staff for their persistence and desire to ensure the boys had an opportunity to perform. Nerves were visible due to the long absence between live concert performances but that was quickly forgotten as boys swung into action to deliver a great sound and outstanding entertainment.
An important component of ATC is the diverse pathways offered to the students. This week at the College Assembly we acknowledged the 69 Year 12 students who have gained a VET qualification during their studies at ATC. The VET courses covered areas such as Certificate I and II in Hospitality, Certificate I in Construction which are delivered by ATC teachers, plus Certificate III in Business and Certificate III in Fitness endorsed by Binnacle Training; plus the Diploma of Business delivered by Barrington College) plus a wide range of Certificate II and III courses offered through “TAFE at School” e.g. Electrotechnology, Screen & Media, Plumbing, Engineering Pathways, Information Digital Media & Technology, Sound Production, Crime & Justice, Automotive Vocational Preparation, Logistics. I congratulate the Year 12 students who have taken advantage of this vast array of courses to obtain significant qualifications and skills.

Next Tuesday 14th September we will be observing ‘Reading Hour’ in the Junior School as part of the national initiative ‘Australia Reads’. Australia Reads is on a mission to get more people reading more books, more often.
We invite all Junior School boys to come along to the library next Tuesday and engage in entertaining Storytime sessions with Mr Stewart and Mrs Sainsbury! As if that isn’t enough incentive, there will be lucky door prizes too! Did you know that reading for just 10 minutes a day at the average reading rate of 300 words per minute means you could be reading 3,000 words a day, leading to 90,000 words (the average length of an adult book) each month! So come on ATC boys, let’s champion reading as a healthy daily habit to improve on all aspects of literacy!
Year 5 HPE
The Physical Education program for Year 5 in Term 4 is swimming. The boys will be participating in 8 swimming lessons starting in Week 1 of Term 4. The boys are required to wear their PE uniform to school as normal and will have time at the start and end of each lesson to change in and out of their swimming gear. As the pool is under a shade structure, there is NO requirement for sun shirts to be worn and the boys may wear any swimwear that they feel comfortable swimming in. Both shorts or swim training togs are appropriate for this unit and swimming goggles are an optional item. ATC swimming togs may be worn but are not required. The unit will focus on swimming technique in freestyle and then move to learning lifesaving survival strokes as we progress through the term. We encourage the boys to take responsibility for packing swimming gear on a Wednesday morning and boys who are unable to swim for any reason will be asked to complete written work relating to the swimming topic of the day. If you have any questions or concerns relating to this unit, then please contact Mr Paul Jones, Year 5 HPE Teacher.

Year 12 Gift to the College
A message from Year 12 P&F Parent Liaison, Ms Siobhan Knott. As is tradition in many schools, the Year 12 Seniors will present a gift to the College as symbol of their gratitude and for other students to benefit from into the future. This year, the Parents and Friends, in consultation with the Year 12 students, have decided the Senior gift will be a Water- Cooling system to be placed at the Senior School. There will be a plaque mounted above the system in recognition. We are grateful for any donations that the 2021 Senior families may be able to contribute towards the Water-Cooling system with estimated cost of approximately $5,600. This is a fitting gift and one that students will benefit from in years to come. Please login to your Parent Lounge account and proceed to the “Make a Payment” option in the Events tab. Your Parent Lounge username is your parent code. If you have queries, please contact the P&F Parent Liaison, Siobhan.

FAITH & MISSION NEWS
A reminder that the final week of being able to log your son’s service hours is Friday 17 September, Week 10 of Term 3.
Pay to Dare
As a means of raising funds to give to the poor and marginalised, and as a way of making the final day of Term 3 even more fun, a proposal was presented to the Junior School this morning. ‘Pay to Dare’ is bound to raise proceeds, laughter and the heart rate of our Junior School Staff. Each student in the Junior School is asked to donate money ($3, $5 or $10). If more than $1000 is raised, the staff will perform a ‘dare’ which has been carefully designed and selected for them. Examples include Mr Stewart racing some Year 6 swimmers in a 25m Butterfly race (in his formal work attire) and some Taylor Swift karaoke performed by the somewhat musically talented trio of Mr Thompson, Mrs Emu and Mrs Gainer. Our Year 6 leaders are still gathering some further ideas for all staff. Students are asked to bring the money to their Home Room Teachers prior to Friday September 17. Any support and money raised will be much appreciated and passed on to those in need. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Matt Warr, Dean of Faith and Mission.
STEPtember Year 10 Service Initiative
Year 10 students are invited to take part in STEPtember, by registering 10,000 steps a day for the duration of the month of September. STEPtember is dedicated to raising money and awareness to improve the lives of those living with Cerebral Palsy. Students need to register via the link below, including a parent acknowledgement that they will complete 10,000 steps each day of September. They will need a step counting device (a watch or pedometer) to complete this challenge as well as a $5 donation, that will go to the STEPtember organisation. This donation should be enclosed in a sealed envelope and delivered to the Faith and Mission office. By completing this task students can log five service hours with their homeroom teacher and email any images to the Service Office firstname.lastname@example.org CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK.
As the assessment period begins all students are asked to please remember to advise your relevant music teacher prior if you are unable to make a scheduled lesson time.
