Coming Up in Week Four

It is only mid October but our Year 12 students sat in their final classes ever on Tuesday. After two days of SWOTVAC they began their external ATAR examinations today. We continue to pray the Year 12 students remain calm and focused as they undertake these important final examinations. These transition times are always emotional for those involved and this week has been such for our Senior students.

I congratulate the Year 12s for the respectful manner they have conducted themselves this week. A series of events – House assemblies, a massive Year 12 touch football game, plus futsal and dodgeball matches against the staff – have helped exert some energy and emotion. The student body will formally farewell the Year 12 2021 class on November 18 at the College Valedictory Assembly.

The conclusion of Year 12 classes means that assessment is around the corner for all year levels. With only five weeks of the school year remaining, it is important that all students are aware of their assessment tasks and due dates. The next month will go very quickly so organisation is vital. The end of the year is also a time for a laptop and textbook check before they are scheduled to be handed in.

I wish the Year 11 students all the best for their SociABLE this evening at the Greek Club. It is an important celebration for the cohort, and another step in their evolution as the leaders of the student body.

Office Hours during December/January School Holidays

Please note that College Reception will close at 3.00pm on the last day of Term 4, Friday 26 November 2021. The College will be closed for the Christmas period from Friday 17 December and will reopen on Monday 3 January 2022.  At all other times, College Reception will be open from 8am to 4pm. Please refer to 2022 Term Dates.


Year 4 Milk Bottle Regatta

One of the highlights for the boys next term will be the annual “Year 4 Milk Bottle Raft Regatta.”  This will be held on Thursday 25 November, the last week of Term 4. Students will work in teams to construct rafts out of plastic milk bottles and race on them in the Pool. More details will be provided early next term. To prepare for this we ask that you and your son begin to collect plastic milk bottles  (1, 2 and 3L), wash them and store them in garbage bags at home.  The bottles are to be brought to school in the week beginning Monday 22 November so construction can begin in preparation for the Regatta. On average, each student should bring in 15 milk bottles and two rolls of packing tape.

Textbook Returns Year 12

A reminder to all Year 12 parents, caregivers and students that when external exams are completed, all textbooks must be returned to the Westcourt iCentre.  The last day for returns is Friday 12 November. Parents can view their son’s textbooks on loan via Parent Lounge. Go to Student Details and see Issued Textbooks. If books are not returned by the due date, parents will incur a replacement cost fee which will be charged to your Fees Statement account.  

Laptop Audits years 7-11

At the end of Term 4 students in Years 7-11 are required to return their laptops for the annual audit and maintenance of the machines. During the next few weeks, an audit will be completed during home room to identify parts that need to be ordered to complete repairs at the end of Term 4.  Damage of IT equipment (intentional or accidental) will incur a repair bill for the family. Devices are covered by Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) for a limited number of parts per claim with an excess of $70.  Once the claim limit has been exceeded, an additional repair cost will be incurred.  Please refer to the ATC Acceptable Technology Use Policy on the SEQTA Engage, Documents section for further details. Parents will be notified if a student’s laptop is identified during the initial audit as requiring a repair at the end of the year.  Year 11 - Laptops will be able to be picked up on the last day of school after handing them in for repair, once boys have completed their final exams.  Year 4 – 10 - Laptops will be returned to all students in Week 1, 2022.  

Year 12 Laptop Purchase Option

As part of the College 1:1 Laptop Program, each student was given a College laptop at the beginning of Year 10 for the Senior School three‐year cycle. Following the conclusion of each Year 12s final exam, students will need to hand in their laptop and charger to the IT Department. It is important that Year 12 students back up any files on their laptop that they wish to keep to a USB or external hard drive. After auditing the current laptops and the needs for 2022, a decision has been made to offer the 2021 Seniors the opportunity to purchase their College laptops. After consultation with our IT partners, ATC has been offered $320 for each of the devices. If a family wishes to purchase the College laptop, they will need to pay the market rate of $320 via Parent Lounge, under Events and Payments. Purchase of the laptop must be completed by COB Tuesday 26 November 2021 and will be returned in the same physical condition as they were handed in. Laptops will be available for collection from the IT Office from Monday 6 December 2021.


Year 6 Transition Events

Please see important information on the College App from Mr Michael Stewart regarding the 2021 Year 6 Transition Events which include the Year 6 Formation Lessons – The Path To Year 7 being held throughout Term 4; Year 6 Transition Retreat on Wednesday 24 November; End of Year 6 Celebration Liturgy on Thursday 25 November at 1:30pm and the Rite of Passage Tunnel on Friday 26 November (Time to be announced).

New Homerooms Senior School

As the College has continued to grow there has been a significant increase in the number of students in the Senior School.  Given this, and our ongoing commitment to excellence in pastoral care, Homeroom positive relationships there will be an additional Senior School Homeroom in each House as of 2022 bringing the total to six Homerooms per House.  The Heads of House will facilitate a process to determine the members of each new Homeroom that will consider a range of aspects including students’ ages, siblings, relationships, academic and leadership strengths and staffing. Students who are identified to benefit from this opportunity will be invited to join the new Homeroom. The students who accept the invitation will join the new Homeroom who will begin to meet toward the end of Term Four in anticipation of a continued journey together as of Term One 2022.  The students who accept the invitation will join the new Homeroom who will begin to meet toward the end of Term Four in anticipation of a continued journey together as of Term One 2022. 

Year 4 Dance – Celebration of Excellence

A significant annual College event, ‘Celebration of Excellence’, is being held on Tuesday 16 November at Riverlife from 5.30pm. This event not only recognises outstanding excellence in learning, leadership, service and co-curricular activities, but also provides a platform to showcase our students’ talents. In 2021, the Year 4 cohort have been invited to perform a choreographed dance routine which will be taught by Michel Kabana from MnB Entertainment and overseen by Mr Grant Carlson, Junior School HPE teacher. Each Tuesday for six weeks, boys will learn their moves as part of the Physical Education Curriculum. It will be an exciting night for all Year 4 boys as they perform on stage in front of a large audience and it is expected that all Year 4 students attend for the entire evening. As the event draws closer, more details will be released on the ATC App regarding costumes, times and meeting places. I ask all Year 4 families to save Tuesday 16 November to their calendars. Year 12 Parent Information Evening

The Year 12 2022 Parent Information Evening is scheduled for Thursday 4 November at 6pm in Nudgee Junior Hall. This is an important session for all current Year 11 parents outlining what to expect for the Year 12 cohort in 2022 in Learning, Formation, and Faith and Mission. Presentations from each of the respective Deans will provide information about significant dates and milestone events in your son’s Senior Year. Information about this was sent by email on Monday 18 October. Please check your email inbox to ensure you have received and read this communication. Community Mass

It is due to unforeseen circumstances that our Community Mass scheduled for Saturday 23 October has been cancelled.



Year 6 Debating Round 4 The next round of QDU Primary School Debating is being held on Wednesday 27 October at ATC in the Waterford Building. See campus map below. Preparation for the Term 1 season has started for some sports and is about to start for some others. Swimming, Cricket and Athletic Development is underway and AFL and Volleyball will start in week 5. For the training schedule, please visit the ATC App and go to the relevant sport tag.

Spring Lunch Wrap up

The annual ATC P&F Spring Lunch brought a group of wonderful ladies together on the same day #ATCBoys were dressed in pink, and both raising vital funds for medical research and awareness. In addition to the monies raised at school by students, the Spring Lunch raffle raised $1,550 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and $1,050 for the Red Nose Foundation. We thank the attendees for their generosity in raising a total of $2600 on the day!
