Coming Up in Week 9 Term 3

Year 4 students read stories at Montessori as part of their Service hours

As part of their service program the year 4 boys have been visiting the Indooroopilly Montessori Children’s House each week. It is amazing to see the leadership and initiative the boys are taking when spending time with the younger students. Some of the activities include puzzles, problem solving, drawing and reading to the children.

Outside they play hide and seek, tag, pushing the children on the swings, watering the plants and of course helping them dig for treasure in the sandpit! The smiles on the faces of the year 4 boys are as broad as the smiles on the Montessori student’s faces. We don’t know who enjoys the afternoon more! Throughout the year, all year 4 boys will be given this opportunity.

The Formal concert on Saturday night was a great success. The venue, ERPAC provided an opportunity for our Performing Arts students to take the stage in an international standard venue. It was a huge day of rehearsals leading into the evening program and I would like to thank the staff who are so dedicated to making days like this enjoyable and successful. To Jonathon Bolt, Cath Esbensen, Barb McGeever, Jason Goopy, Darren Skaar, Michael Bannon, Mary McGuinness, Shereen Lister, Andre Vocaturo, Brijette Tubb and Natalie Scalia from the Music Department, your input, organisation and effort is much appreciated.

Swagtember – Thursday 15 September
Over the last few weeks our Year 6 boys have been learning about the charity, Street Swags. This has meant investigating the good work they do with the homeless around Australia. Street Swags provide basic bed rolls or ‘swags’ for those sleeping rough and give preference to families and those with small children. Each year Street Swags hold an annual fundraiser called Swagtember which they rely heavily on to be able to continue doing their good work.

This will be the fourth year NJC / ATC has been involved in Swagtember. This is a sleep out at school where the Year 6 students sleep in their eating area for one night and raise money in the lead up to support them ‘roughing it for a night’. As part of this event Shelley Ryan comes out from Street Swags and talks to the boys about the charity and also brings swags for the boys to assemble and roll, ready for shipping.

We have set the goal of raising $1500 this year. The boys have made an impressive start and have been busily working on coming up with creative ways to get donations. So far we have managed to raise almost a third of our goal thanks to the generosity of our wonderful community. If you would like to support us, please head to to make a donation. Please email Dave Sullivan for further information.

Year 8 Retreat – 14 October 2016 Volunteers Required
The Year 8 Retreat will have a focus on the ‘Power of Relationships’ and why family and friends are the most important people in our lives. For this day to have maximum impact on the boys’ journey from ‘boyhood to manhood’, we need your support.
