Coming Up in Week 7

With restrictions in Brisbane easing today, the College is continuing to evaluate operations and events. Please continue to read the correspondence from Chris Ryan to have the informed up-to-date information. Listed below are the events that at this stage will hopefully occur next week. Staff and students have been extremely flexible and positive this week to ensure a productive ‘normal’ week focused on learning and positive relationships.

Co-curricular Photos have been rescheduled to Wednesday 25 August. Team members of Rugby, Football, Basketball, Indoor cricket, Cross Country, Athletics and ATC Saxophones are required to have their full uniform with them on the day, for these important photos.

The College’s Music Program has taken more hits than most due to restrictions as the program revolves so much around groups rehearsing and audiences gathering together to be entertained in normal conditions. Unfortunately, these cancellations now include the Formal Music Concert which was to be held on Friday 3 September. The Music staff are continuing to explore other opportunities for our students to perform this year.

This is due to the change to the EKKA public holiday. Students can also look forward to their subject results and ATARs being made available on 17 December, as planned. The revised timetable is available for download on the ATC App.

Walk the Walk Years 8-12

The Service Program at ATC is central to the values of our College and empowers students to live their faith through action. Advocacy is a powerful tool to engage with the spirit of service at times when there is difficulty finding face to face opportunities. It heightens awareness and shines the light on the difficulties others face in society. The Walk the Walk Service Initiative for Years 8 – 12 provides an opportunity for students to experience service through advocacy. Students will receive information directly via email from Mr Andrew McCrohon during the coming week. Parents are to provide permission for their son to participate in the activity via the online form here. Please contact Mr McCrohon should you have any queries with this activity.

Year 8 Grand Story

Year 8 Students are invited to participate in the My Grand Story activity over the coming weeks. My Grand Story is a Service initiative that sees students work through a booklet of questions with their Grandparents. It is a wonderful way for our ATC Gentlemen to learn the stories of their Elders. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with Grandparents and record their life experiences and lessons. They’ll get 5 Service hours for completing the booklet, but more importantly, they will spend some valuable time with their beloved family members. Click the link below to download the booklet. Students are to save this file to their computer so they can add their responses. Organise a time, either over the phone or in person, and sit back and listen to all the tales and adventures of Grandma and Grandad. So you can receive your service hours please register for My Grand Story on the link here.

Yellow Brick Road

Junior School are invited to commence the Yellow Brick Road Service activity. The YBR, is a 4-week plan that focuses on small acts of Service in and around the home. If there is an activity that you are unable to complete, feel free to substitute it with something else (household jobs/chores cannot be used, like making your bed!).  In times such as these, acts of kindness and service are as important as ever. Students can snap a photo of themselves completing some of the activities and send it to so we can share the good news to our community! Let’s Lead through our Service!

Indro to India

During the colder months it is always an opportunity to pause and reflect on the circumstances of others who find themselves sleeping rough on those cold nights. Whether it be people across the world or people in our very own communities, homelessness impacts many. ATC students are called to build relationships with poor and marginalised, and through the Indro India initiative, students in the middle school will get an opportunity to show empathy and compassion to those who sleep rough, by sleeping rough in solidarity with those, who tonight do not have a warm bed to sleep in. After registering on the link below, between the Feast Day of Mary Mackillop 8 August and the Feast Day of Mother Theresa 5 September students can spend a night sleeping in their own backyard in a tent or swag. They will be required to eat dinner outside, go to bed, and have breakfast outside, and will not be allowed the use of their phone. In addition to completing the sleeping challenge, students are to donate $5 (sealed in a named envelope and delivered to the Faith and Mission office) which will go towards assisting the St Vincent De Paul Society, which provide wonderful support services for those sleeping rough. Upon completion of the tasks, students can log 5 Service Hours with their Homeroom teacher. Please send any photos through to

Interhouse Chess Challenge

Interhouse Chess challenge is being held in Week 7. Students are invited to represent their House in a Brains V Brains: House v’s House Chess Champions Match in NJ Hall at second break. See the College App for dates. Who can beat the reigning Champions Ulster House? No experience necessary. Staff and Students are both welcome to compete.

Gate to Gate

The annual Gate to Gate race is a maximum effort, uphill dash across the entire College campus. Tradition has it that the first Seniors of Ambrose Treacy in 2019, wanted to mark their journey from where they started in the Junior School to where they finished in the Senior School and so the annual Gate to Gate Race was born. This year, all the races are scheduled on the same day Friday 27 August.  Will the Leinster Giants continue their reign or will the Mighty Munster Kings beat them to the post?

Cooking Club will return in Week 7 and Coordinators, or Lisa Mortlock will be in contact with specific details. Details pertaining to external Clubs, such as Mountain Biking and Golf, will be sent directly to registered participants in due course.

We look forward to welcoming back all students in choirs, bands, ensembles and Taiko to rehearsals re-commencing next week.
