Cancelled activities on Tuesday 19 July
Due to the Blessing and Opening Ceremony next Tuesday, a small number of after school activities have been cancelled. Please make a note of these in your diary:
- AMEB Theory Group – cancelled
- Rugby Year 9 only cancelled. All other teams will train.
- Study Club – cancelled. It will recommence Wednesday 20 July next week. Typically, the Club will run on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s from Week 2 to Week 9.
For the last seven days of the holidays, 47 students, 8 staff and many families toured to Sydney as part of the 2016 Australian International Music Festival. Our boys gave Symphonic Winds and Big Band performances at the Sydney Opera House, Angel Place Congress Hall and the Australian Maritime Museum. As part of our Opera House debut, we contributed to NAIDOC Week celebrations with a performance of Legend of the Mountain with Jye Duncan-Cope and David Saunders (Year 6) and their fathers on digeridoo accompanied by concert band. We were honoured to have the composer Barrie Gott and Michael Senior present for this performance.
The boys were very fortunate to receive workshops by respected conductor Stephen Williams (Australia) and composer Dr Brett Abigaña (USA) at the Sydney Conservatorium High School. They also shared an inspiring rehearsal with the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble. Our ensembles were both awarded Silver for their performances throughout the week! The group also visited The Rocks, Taronga Zoo, Luna Park, the Mary McKillop Centre, and dined at numerous restaurants around Sydney. The level of musicianship and behaviour of our boys was outstanding, as was the professionalism of our staff. Thank you and congratulations to our staff who facilitated such a wonderful experience – Mr Michael Bannon, Mr Jonathan Bolt, Mrs Cath Esbensen, Mr Jason Goopy, Mrs Natalie Scalia, Mr Darren Skaar, Ms Brijette Tubb and Mr Bernard Wong.
Japan Cultural Tour
Mr Ramsay, Mrs Rau and Mr Cullen volunteered their time over the holidays to lead a group of ATC students on the Japan Cultural Tour. The group enjoyed the sights of Osaka, the elegant Himeji Castle, Nara and the very moving historical site of Hiroshima.
Many hours were also spent eating some great food, and having unique experiences travelling on the Japanese subways, superfast trains, monorails and buses. The boys also had 2 days with a homestay family immersing themselves in the Japanese family lifestyle and traditional Japanese activities including Kendo, calligraphy, origami, taiko drums and games such as kendama, toshidama and karuta.

Parent Lounge – SEQTA
All reports are currently available through the Parent Lounge. This includes Semester 1 Academic Report, and where applicable, Instrumental Music, Speech and Drama, and Rainbow Reading reports.
Parents are also able to view individual results for each piece of assessment that their son has completed. This is in addition to the detailed feedback notes from teachers, providing you with information as to what your son has achieved on that piece of assessment and where he may improve. Constant feedback is a vital component of improvement.
Parent Lounge now also provides the information to parents regarding any Commendations (Leadership, Learning, Service) that their son may have received. Young men always appreciate and value acknowledgement when they have done something well. At ATC we will continually seek opportunities to acknowledge the good work by our students.
Year 7 and 8 Immunisations – Tuesday 19th July 2016
A reminder that the immunisation team will be here next Tuesday 19th July 2016 for the Year 7 and 8 Boostrix vaccination. The immunisations will be conducted by a team of specially trained registered nurses. Only students who have returned the forms will be immunised. Please ensure your son has breakfast on the day of the vaccinations and discuss the importance of staying calm during the vaccination process. For any enquiries regarding the vaccinations please contact the Brisbane City Council Call Centre and ask for Immunisation Services – 3403 8888.
Year 8 Retreat
Please be advised and adjust your calendar to reflect that the Year 8 Retreat has been postponed from Friday 22 July to Friday 14 October 2016.
You can now order Caesar Salad at both tuckshops from next week. You can choose to have it with or without Chicken and we have also allow for Gluten Free staff and boys by having an option to remove croutons. Remember to go to Flexischools to place your online order.
A reminder that if your son is dropped at the College later than 8.25am he must go to Student Reception and sign in. If he doesn’t do this, he will be marked as absent and you will receive an SMS from the College. To avoid unnecessary concern to you, please follow the above procedure.
