Coming Up for Term 3

I hope all our families are staying safe and well. With Week One on the horizon I share information below to assist you in preparing for the busy term ahead.

Please be aware that all events continue to be subject to review and once the next phase of Covid restrictions are communicated by Queensland Health, the College will update families via the ATC App.

Student are welcome to wear a mask at any time and in any setting while at school. The mask directive is applicable when travelling to and from school when sharing cars or when using public transport. Parents are welcome on site but will need to sign in at Student Reception and wear a mask if they are not socially distancing.

Hand sanitizer will be available in all classrooms and in key locations around the College. Please remind your sons of the importance of hand hygiene.

Update My Details

If you have moved house, got a new mobile number or changed email addresses then we need to know. Parents and caregivers are reminded to update their contact details and their son’s medical details in Parent Lounge before term begins. This enables us to have up-to-date information and ensure effective communication.

Parent, Student and Teacher Feedback Meetings

Online meetings with your son’s Semester 2 Teachers are scheduled for Monday 19 July 2021, 9am to 7.30pm (Pupil Free Day). Please note the following information:
• Bookings will be held online via TEAMs
• Bookings close at 3pm on Tuesday 13 July

Subject Selection – Current Years 7, 8 ,9, 10

All parents and caregivers of our current Years 7 – 10 students will be able to access Subject Selection online via the SEQTA portal. Detailed instructions and important dates will be forwarded to parents early Term 3 for the students to enter preferences in Web Preferences. This software program is linked to individual students’ codes and finally generates their specific timetable. Hence it is student based and emails are sent to the student account. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to log on with their son to work together in the selection process. Parents are also sent an email to verify the subject selections. Families in Year 10 will be involved in a SET planning meeting with an allocated mentor.

ICAS Testing

The College will run sessions for the annual ICAS English, Science and Maths exams, for Years 4 to 10, on the dates and times below. To register for the ICAS exams you must visit their website below and pay the fee online. The College cannot process payment or registration for students. Please refer to the letter on the ATC App for further details.

· English: Tuesday 17 August 2021 from 7:15-8:15am; cost $17.05
· Science: Tuesday 24 August 2021 from 7:15-8:15am; cost $17.05
· Maths: Tuesday 31 August 2021 from 7:15-8:15am; cost $17.05

If you are registering multiple children at different schools, we advise you to clear your cache before placing the new entry for your son. Tests are NOT mandatory.

Geography Excursions

Year 10- As part of the study for Term 3 Geography – ‘Geography of Wellbeing’, all Year 10 Geography students will be participating in an excursion to the University of Queensland for ‘Geography Earth and Environment Day’ on Friday 23 July.  Please be at the Internal Drop Off Zone by 8.15am for roll marking. Students are to wear their Formal Uniform – Suit Coat and Tie, bring a small day pack and a water bottle filled with water. Morning tea and a sausage sizzle lunch will be provided at UQ. The bus will depart at 8.30am and return at approximately 3.00pm.

Year 7 CNWL – As part of the study for Term 2 Geography – ‘Water on the World’, Year 7 students will be participating in an excursion to Wivenhoe Dam and surrounds to investigate our water supply here in South East Queensland. Please note: the bus leaves at 8.15am and boys need to be at school no later than 8am. Full details are on the ATC App.

Year 11 & Year 12 Visual Art Excursion

On Wednesday 21 July, Year 11 and Year 12 Visual Art classes will be visiting GOMA to experience the European Masters Exhibition as part of our unit of study for Term 3. This is a rare opportunity to gain a critical understanding and expand knowledge about the role of galleries and museums, the importance and value of experiencing artworks in person and to develop skills in the analysis of highly acclaimed artworks. The College bus will depart at 11.50am for GOMA, Stanley Place, South Brisbane and return by 3pm. Students are to wear their Formal Uniform and bring lunch and a small backpack. Large bags are NOT permitted at GOMA. See the ATC App for full details from Ms Sneddon. 

Year 12 Biology Excursion

On Wednesday 28 July, all Year 12 Biology students will attend the QIMR Berghofer Genetics Workshop. Bus will depart early from the Senior School roundabout at 8am. Please be at school by 7.50am for roll call. The bus will return to ATC by 2:45pm.  Students must wear their Formal Uniform, bring their own morning tea  and water bottle as well as lunch or money to buy lunch from the Cafe facilities. Put all of this into a small bag t along with a mobile phone, writing material, clipboard. Further details are on the ATC App.

Year 11 Visual Art Excursion

On Thursday 29 July, at 8.10am, Year 11 Visual Art students will be attending The Ceramic Studio to learn the skills of wheel throwing as part of our unit of study for Term 3. The aims of the activity are to learn the ceramic skill of wheel throwing.   The College bus will travel to The Ceramics Studio Indooroopilly on Thursday 29July departing ATC at 8.15am. Students are to be at school by 8.10am in E111 for roll call. See the letter on the ATC App for further details from Mrs Willoughby. 

Faith & Mission News


On Tuesday 13 July, Year 8-12 will move straight to SFXC for Mass. This will predominantly occur during Period 1. Years 4-7 will celebrate Mass in Period 3 and Years 4-6 boys will be involved in additional workshops in Periods 5 and 6.

Bravery Box Donations

The Bravery Box is an organisation that work towards providing some joy and happiness for kids and teens living with cancer. To support this amazing initiative,  ATC is taking part in the Bravery Box Toy Drive. Donations of NEW and UNUSED toys for children from 3 months, all the way up to 18 years of age will be greatly appreciated. We will be accepting donations to the Bravery Box Toy Drive up until Friday 6 August. Please bring your gifts to the Faith and Mission office.  Please note that due to pandemic restrictions, only new items will be accepted. No second hand items are allowed.

Year 11 Retreat

An essential part of the leadership journey for our 2022 College Seniors is the Leadership Retreat from Wednesday 14 July to 16 July. The retreat is a 3-day, 2-night event to be held at Camp Laurence at Moogerah Dam. The 2022 Leadership Team will cook a Brotherhood breakfast from 7:30am. Following this, students will be transported to the venue. Students are expected to return by 4:30pm on Friday afternoon. The retreat is very different to a normal ‘camp experience.’ There will be limited time for boys to participate in traditional outdoor educational learning as topics covered will invite boys to reflect on their schooling, leadership, connection and cohort goals. Boys will sleep in cabins for the 2 evenings. The retreat will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the strong sense of community that is evident in the group.

Leinster House Friendship Group Dandalion Soccer World Cup

Leinster House students in Years 10 – 12 are asked to support the Dandalion ATC Soccer World Cup day by volunteering on Sunday 1 August in the SFXC. Please register on the link below. More details will be released early in Term 3. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.

Formation News

Grandparents’ Day Years 4 and 5

We warmly invite parents and the significant elders of boys in Years 4 and 5 to spend time in the classrooms and attend the Year level Masses on Tuesday 10 August [Year 4] and Thursday 12 August [Year 5]. Full details of both events are of the ATC App.

Leadership Assembly

The College will formally acknowledge the Junior, Middle and Senior School Student Council Representatives at the Leadership Assembly on Tuesday 20 July, commencing at 8.25am in the St. Francis Xavier Centre. The nominated students will be presented with a certificate to acknowledge their appointment. It is important all Student Council Representatives arrive at 8.10am prior to the assembly commencing.  Students will be seated beside the stage and should wear their formal school uniform including suit coat and tie.

Parent Information – Child Safeguarding Series

In fostering positive relationships, Ambrose Treacy College is partnering with Brigidine College in a parent education series regarding Consent Education. The purpose of the series is to support families in their understanding of the aspects and language associated with Consent Education, enabling families to have informed conversations with their children.  The College, in collaboration with the ATC P&F, invite families to two important information evenings on Wednesday 28 July at Brigidine College, Kildare Hall 6:30pm and on Tuesday 3 August at Ambrose Treacy College, Nudgee Junior Hall 6:30pm. Year 8 Social Afternoon  

On Monday 26 July, all Year 8 students are invited to a social event, providing an opportunity for boys to develop social connectedness and demonstrate respectful relationships with others.  In fostering positive relationships, Ambrose Treacy College will be partnering with Brigidine College in our Formation Social Series.  The event starts at 3.30pm and concludes at 5:30pm. Click here to RSVP by Monday 19 July. It is anticipated that everyone will have an enjoyable experience at this event where students will engage in interactive activities in the form of retro games, trivia, and a general meet and greet. We welcome all students to attend. Afternoon tea will be provided, and students will be permitted to change into their sports uniform for the afternoon after 3pm. Further information is on the ATC App.

Year 11 SociABLE

The SociABLE is an important formative event for the Year 11 students. It will be held at The Greek Club, 29 Edmondstone Street, South Brisbane on Tuesday 10 August from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. Full details are on the College App. Ticket sales close on Monday 19 July. Please go to Parent Lounge to purchase your son and his partner’s ticket/s.

Sport News

Please see attached the Term 3 Sport Training timetable. Please take note of the starting week for each sport. Should boys not be available for any session, please encourage them to speak to their coach, the Coordinator of the relevant Sport or the Sports Office staff.

Whilst we endeavour to accommodate every student and their desires, due to resource limitations some Clubs have capped numbers. We apologise in advance for any disappointment. More information relating to other clubs will be released in the coming days.

Cultural News


A debating competition with IDC Debating is being offered for keen and committed debaters. Parents and caregivers can email Mr Thomas Schaab by 31 July to register. Newcomers to debating are welcome and you will compete against schools from around the world via Zoom! Students have the option to debate on-site or from the comfort of their own home. There is short-prep time and no speech writing with the added bonus of teams being coached by one of our experienced debating coaches at ATC. Why not try debating in Term 3? Trivia Night

The ATC P&F TRIVIA NIGHT on Saturday 31 July at 6pm is SOLD OUT. The theme is “Back in Time”. Raffle tickets to win some amazing prizes are for sale on the night. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed and best table decoration. This event is BYO food and drinks with themed table decorations. The hall will be open from 3pm on the day for you to decorate your tables. We need volunteers for this event! If you can assist please email Suzanne Rosolen. SAVE THE DATE P&F Spring Lunch – 15 October 2021

Come and celebrate with friends and meet new ones at the ATC P&F Spring Lunch on Friday 15 October. Enjoy a fancy high tea and a glass of Prosecco or Non-Alcoholic Prosecco on arrival plus unlimited tea coffee for 2 hours. The day runs from 11.30am to 2.30pm and is being held at the Matriarch, 22 Masters Street Newstead, a historic Newstead warehouse turned exquisite 19th century French style bar. Cost: $60 ($5 of this goes to Breast Cancer research and a charity of our guest speakers choice). Seats are limited to 100 only so keep an eye out for more details coming soon on the ATC App. Dress code is a splash of PINK in conjunction with the ATC Breast Cancer Fundraising Day.
