On Wednesday evening, we held our second annual ATC Choral Concert in the Chapel of St Joseph. The evening was a celebration of the tremendous singing by the young men of ATC at 2017 events such as the Voices from the Trenches, Queensland Youth Music Awards, Combined Brigidine Musical Showcase, Pemulwuy National Male Voice Festival, Queensland Catholic Music Festival, ATC’s Jazz by the River, and continued service at the College’s liturgical celebrations.
The audience enjoyed performances by Junior Choir, ATC Chamber Choir and ATC Senior Singers. Highlights included the Latin American El cumbanchero (Junior Choir), Homeward Bound featuring tenor soloist Max O’Hagan (ATC Chamber Choir), and the Stars Look Down from the musical hit Billy Elliott (Senior Singers). In a special tribute, Senior Singers performed “On Eagle’s Wings” to Mary McGuiness thanking her for inspiring the love of music in NJC and ATC students for four decades.
Special invited guests, the Birralee Blokes, conducted by Paul Holley and our own Kate Thompson gave a rousing performance. The Blokes have recorded numerous albums, toured internationally and previously earned titles such as ABC Classic FM Choir of the Year (2006) and Choir of the World (Kathaumixw 2012). They were a stellar example of young men singing together resulting in comradery and excellence in music performance!
The evening concluded with a combined performance of all 100 voices singing the Beatles classic, Hey Jude. There was also some audience participation! Thanks go to Kate Thompson, Christian Gante, Michael Bannon, Natalie Scalia, Jonathon Bolt, John Goulter and the Cultural Support Group for their continued dedication throughout the year. Any boys at ATC who are interested in singing for the College are encouraged to make contact with myself or Miss Thompson at any time!
