Boys and Reading

There is a general feeling that boys and books do not go together. I would suggest that this is not the case. Some boys may not read as much or as often as we adults would like, but given a little encouragement and incentive, this attitude can change.

At ATC we actively promote reading for pleasure in both our Mt Sion and Westcourt libraries and the result is that we find boys who read; boys who talk about books; boys who recommend and suggest books to read; boys who choose to read for enjoyment. The secret is to provide books that matter – books that boys want to read. As author J.K. Rowling once said, ‘If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.’

We are proud of our collection and promote it often via displays, competitions, reader advice, e-books, Pinterest boards and book clubs. It has been fun curating a new collection of books for boys in the middle school as the provision of print reading resources is still a key role of the library in schools.

On Tuesday 17 May we officially open our newest library, Westcourt iCentre and invite you to be a part of the event. In celebration of books and reading there will be a book chat by Riverbend Books expert, Pauline McLeod. Books which are mentioned will be available for purchase. We invite you to join us for drinks and nibbles as we showcase the new centre and allow you to discover more of what happens in a modern school library. To book your FREE ticket click here.
