Volleyball - New Addition to the Sporting Program

Volleyball was a new addition to the diverse sporting program offered at Ambrose Treacy College in 2015. For many year 7 and 8 boys, volleyball is quite a foreign sport with a unique skill set. In Queensland (and Australia) however, volleyball is regarded as one of the largest participation based sports at a high school level.

At Ambrose Treacy College students trialled in Term 1 for the Volleyball Development Program. Students selected trained once a week and played matches against Gregory Terrace, Brisbane Grammar School, Brisbane Boys’ College, St. Patrick’s College and St. Peter’s Lutheran College mid-week. These matches provided an important opportunity for students to experience game play and consolidate their skills learnt at training. Over the course of term one, students showed huge improvement.

In term four, the College participates in The Gap Invitational Spring Series Volleyball competition. Increased interest saw the College enter three teams. This competition was a fantastic opportunity for students to further develop their knowledge of the game in a friendly, competitive environment. The College looks forward to growing the sport even more into the future with prospects of participating in the Queensland Schools Cup again in 2017
