Year 5 Cross Travels to the Somme

5 Nolan have had the opportunity to take part in the Premier’s prize by being involved with the Queensland Government’s Commemorative Crosses Project. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure the Anzac spirit continues to be kept alive amongst young Australians.

Somerville House year 11 student, Charlotte Solomon is sister to ATC boys Atticus & Dasha. Charlotte was offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when she was selected as a recipient of the Premier’s Anzac Prize which has seen her travel to the Western Front over the last week to commemorate Anzac Day at Villers Bretonneux. She visited 5 Nolan recently and told the story of Lance Corporal Bert Chapman who was the Solomons Great Grandfather. The class was left with a commemorative cross to decorate. Students placed their initials on it and the College crest and Charlotte then took our cross to France. The images show Charlotte placing the cross at the site in the Somme.
