Upcoming Art Competitions

With the holidays upon us there will be some spare time for children to get creative. There are many competitions coming up including the local Brookfield Show’s art competition and the ever popular Ekka fine arts, painting and drawing competition which has opened for entries this week. For anyone who enjoys being behind the camera, the Lord Mayor’s photography competition focusses on Brisbane’s waterways this year.

Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) Fine Arts Painting & Drawing

Entries are now open for the 2016 Ekka competition. Entries close on Wednesday 1 June at 5pm. You can place your entry online.

Lord Mayor’s Young Environmental Photographer of the Year Awards 2016

The Lord Mayor’s Young Environmental Photographer of the Year Awards 2016 will focus on Brisbane’s waterways and how we utilise this precious resource. This Green Heart Schools competition challenges school students to capture unique and creative images, which show the beauty and value of water in our river city. Entries open Monday 18 April 2016 and close on Sunday 8 May 2016. Enter a photo you have taken that showcases your interpretation of the theme ‘Fresh water, Fresh Perspective’, in one of the following categories:

Primary School category 1 – Fun with water
Primary School category 2 – Life of the river and bay
High School category 1 – Connecting our city
High School category 2 – Water for our future

The public Facebook judging period will be between 11 and 20 May 2016. The winner will be announced in late May and all finalists’ photographs will be displayed around the city. Finalists will be invited to attend a special awards ceremony.  Winners will receive great prizes and have the chance to join widely-acclaimed photographer Steve Parish on a ‘Walk and talk with Steve’. Brookfield show

The Children’s Art Exhibition at the 2016 Brookfield Show is coming up, 13th, 14th and 15th May. This is a chance for children aged 18 months through to Year 12 to enter their art work and possibly win some fantastic prizes. It’s also a great opportunity for budding artists to display their work in an art exhibition. Cut off entry dates are Saturday 7th May 9 – 11am and Monday 9th May 8 – 10am at the Brookfield Showgrounds.
