Week 4 Term 2 Performing Arts News

Following on from a busy short week last week, it has been a productive few days in the Performing Arts department. Well done to the Symphonic Winds and their conductor, Mrs Catherine Esbensen, for their performance on Assembly on Friday

Instrumental Music

Friday’s Mass

This week there is the Edmund Rice Mass at 9.30 am – there is no specific Assembly but some of our experienced Musicians will be performing with the Choir during Mass.

Assembly Performances

There is no performance this Friday due to Mass.
Next week – Friday 13 May – Saxophone Ensemble performs.

Rehearsal Schedule

Please see the link below and on the Rehearsal tab of the Performing Arts blog. If you are unable to attend rehearsal, please advise the conductor and Mrs Scalia via email.

Brass Ensemble
Rehearsal is on TUESDAY mornings at 7 am sharp. Please be on time.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble will rehearse this Friday but will have a later start due to the Mothers’ Day Breaky. Please be on stage by 7.20 am to begin – and mums are most welcome to come along and listen.

Concert Band

Miss Tubb is looking for a 100% roll up on Thursday morning as there is new music to work on and Concert Band members have been a bit sleepy and turning up late to rehearsal. Please email if you are unable to attend.

Big Band

We are working hard to prepare our 30 minute set and to get ready for our gigs in Sydney as part of the World Projects Australasian Festival in July. Please focus on Cantaloop; Yardbird Suite and Act Your Age this weekend in readiness for rehearsal on Tuesday 3.15-4.45pm.

Sydney Tour Information

Important – the boys performing in the Sydney Touring Bands – Winds and Big Band – will need a pair of long grey trousers and the ATC zip up sports jacket for the tour. These are available at the School Locker (link) Wind instruments will need extra reeds and a cleaning cloth etc.. and these are also available at the School Locker.

On Saturday 21 May our Big Band is performing at the Brisbane Jazz Club (Kangaroo Point) as part of the Brisbane

Big Band Festival

Performance is at 3.15 pm to 3.45pm – please come along and support this great band. See Performing Arts Events Tab on the blog for more details and booking information or follow this link. The ATC performance is 3.15 pm to 3.45pm so please come along and support our talented band.

Choir

This year, the Junior Choir will be participating in the Queensland Youth Music Awards. This is a great opportunity for the boys to be heard and hear similar choirs from around Brisbane beyond our Catholic community. The event details are below:

Event: Queensland Youth Music Awards
Ensemble: Junior Choir
Date: Wednesday 25 May 2016 (NOTE: Different to previously advertised)
Venue: School Hall, Kurwongbah State School, Eacham St, Petrie QLD
Times: See email from Mr Goopy
Uniform: Performance Uniform – suit coat, long white sleeved shirt, tie, shorts, long socks and polished shoes
Tickets: $10 for Adults
Performers and children free
Season tickets are available for $25 per adult for 4 concerts and are available for purchase at the door.
Light refreshments will be available for purchase at the venue.

This is an important performance for the Junior Choir and it is expected that all boys will be able to attend. Please contact either Kate Thompson or Jason Goopy if we can assist in negotiating any clashes that arise.

Handbells

Thank you to all ringers who attended practice on Monday’s public holiday. Your enthusiasm and dedication is commendable. Don’t forget our big performance this month is on 28 May at Coorparoo Secondary College.

Awards

Congratulations to the Junior School students who received Instrumental Music awards on Tuesday. All boys showed extra enthusiasm and diligence during lessons, rehearsals and at home. Well done.
