Quality Sporting Opportunities Through QCIS

At the end of 2015 we formally shared the news with our community that we have moved into association with a group of schools to form the Queensland Combined Independent Schools (QCIS). At ATC we are fortunate to be able to offer a wide variety of sporting opportunities to our boys across school, club and community sport. Membership in the QCIS will serve to value add to an already diverse and competitive sport program.

QCIS and the sporting path ahead for ATC

The purpose of the association is to bring together like minded schools who wish to increase the competitive sporting opportunities for their students outside of their current sporting programs. Initially the focus of the association will be on the three championship sports of Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. For each sport ATC will identify and train a squad of athletes from which we will select a team who will compete at the championships.

One of the benefits of formally associating with a group of schools is that together we are continually working together to create quality sporting opportunities for our students. Over the coming year our boys will participate in a number of carnival or tournament style events which will provide great competitive opportunities for our boys whilst ensuring that the travel expectations on parents are not excessive. These day events are currently planned for cricket, rugby and tennis, with opportunities being discussed for basketball and football. Many of these events will be hosted in Brisbane as well as in Toowoomba and Warwick. Parents and families will be very welcome at all QCIS events, however when required to travel out of Brisbane, transport will be provided for boys to and from the venues.

Whilst this association is very much in its infancy we are receiving a large amount of interest from other schools, many of whom will engage in some of the events planned for this year. In 2017 we are looking to formally welcome more schools from Brisbane and the Darling Downs into the competition to join Ambrose Treacy College, Brigidine College, Concordia, Downlands College, Scots PGC and Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School who are the founding members of the association. The QCIS Championships will provide a school based competitive opportunity to compliment our existing program.
