Performing Arts Week 5 Term 3 2016

Our guitar ensemble perform for the first time at QCMF.

Congratulations to the ATC Guitar ensemble who have just won SILVER in their debut performance at QCMF tonight.

2016 touring Ensemble for your outstanding performance on assembly last Friday morning. It was fantastic to hear music played with such energy and passion and to see some fantastic ‘behind the scenes’ photos of the Sydney tour. The Touring Ensemble and ATC Big Band achieved the outstanding result of two SILVER awards for their performances at the Australian International Music Festival.

QCMF
Congratulations to all ATC musicians for all of the hard work and dedication in preparation for QCMF starting this Thursday. This event is a highly significant performance opportunity for our musicians to represent the college and to receive expert adjudication from internationally recognised music experts. All participating Ensembles have now received an event information sheet with all relevant details pertaining to their ensemble performance at QCMF. Most of our ensembles are involved on the Friday 12 August during the day – some ensembles are performing on Thursday evening and Saturday. Please email Mrs Scalia if you know you will not be able to attend on any of these days as it is follows the Ekka public holiday. Full details are now available on the QCMF website and the timetable link is below. Please note that there will be no regular Friday lessons at school this week or Wind Ensemble rehearsal on Friday morning. All lessons and rehearsals resume as normal next week.

Elders Day
ELDERS DAY: (formerly known as Grandparents Day)
MONDAY 22 August 9am – 10.30am
Rehearsal Friday 19 August 1.30pm – 3pm
Uniform: Performance Uniform (White shirt, tie, jacket, shorts)

Ensembles involved:
Junior Chamber Choir
Junior Handbell Ensemble
Ethan Draheim on Piano
Junior Clarinet Ensemble
Junior Flute Ensemble
Junior Saxophone Ensemble

All Year 5 band students will also perform Power Rock and Latin Magic together. Some students involved in the ensembles will either be in Years 4 or 6. These students have been asked to perform for Elders Day.
The students will be required for the performance only. Rehearsal for this day Friday 19 August are as follows:
Junior Chamber Choir at 1.30 in the Hall. All other students will be required from 2-3pm in the Hall.

Formal Concert
On Saturday the 27 August we will be staging our first ever ATC Formal Music Evening at St Laurence’s College ERPAC. This exciting evening of music will feature most of our ATC Choirs and Ensembles in a world class venue and is an opportunity for our musicians to perform in a formal setting in front of a large audience. The concert commences at 6.30pm with pre-concert entertainment from 6.00pm in the foyer.

Afternoon rehearsals/sound checks will be held at the venue following the proposed schedule below. Students (except for Junior Choir and Junior Concert Band – who will be in uniform on arrival) will arrive in free dress but bring their full formal performance uniform to change into along with all necessary instruments and music. They will stay on from their scheduled arrival/rehearsal time and will be provided with a simple BBQ dinner prior to the concert commencing.

We will require some parent volunteers for cooking the BBQ at St Laurence’s College on the day. Year 4 families will receive an e-mail next week to sign up for a spot on the cooking roster from 4.30pm – 6.30pm.

6.30pm – Concert Commences
8.30pm – Proposed conclusion of Concert (with 20 min interval)

Cultural Support Group Meeting
Our next meeting will be at Simon’s Gourmet Gallery on Wednesday 24 August at 10 am. All welcome. We will be discussing the Jazz by the River volunteers.

Jazz by the River
Please mark Saturday 15th October in your diaries for our Jazz by the River Afternoon. This is going to be a sensational afternoon and evening of Jazz, artwork and food by the Brisbane River here at ATC.
Our Jazz Ensemble and Big Band will be performing on the day as well as our headline act – the ATC ALL STARS BAND with Miss Tamara O’Callaghan as the vocalist. Tamara has been singing for most of her life and recently toured the USA singing Jazz in NYC; New Orleans and other famous Jazz clubs. Tickets will be available on Trybooking from Monday the 15 August.
