Debating

The Qld Debating Union (QDU) run a High school debating competition and a Primary school debating competition.
These two competitions overlap at this time of year because the High schools have finished their rounds and are heading into the knockout final rounds during Term 3 while the Primary start off with round one before the break followed by three more rounds in Term 3.

ATC were fortunate this year in being offered two team spots for each of Year 6 and Year 7. Our Year 6 coach is Mr Lawrie Gordon and our Year 7 coach is Ms Kelli Paton.
The Year 6 teams will vary during the season as a very pleasing number of students have volunteered for these teams. For Round 1 the two teams were
6.1 Tom Musgrave, Oliver Bradshaw and Max Stevens
6.2 Harry Walsh, Hayden Robert, Josh Burgess
The topic for these debates were: “That all students should be required to eat free lunches provided by their school instead of lunches brought”
The standard was very high and ATC had a narrow win and a narrow loss on the night.
The Year 7 teams debated on last Wednesday night after a busy day at the athletics carnival.
Their topic was “That we should adopt a proactive shark-culling policy”
Our two teams were
7.1 Finnlay Bell, Alex Bradshaw, Sam Jones
7.2 Liam Killen, Edward Griffiths, Oliver Cook
Again ATC had a narrow win and a narrow loss on the night.
So in summary, we were very pleased for the student support and effort and of course for the parental support in transporting our students to the venues.
